Ok here is how it works. When you board the ship you will go to the Information desk to set up your Sail and sign account. You can start the account with cash, credit or debit card. THe least amount of money you should have on your card is the amount for tips. With Carnival the tips are $10 per day per guest, but you can talk to your travel agent and prepay your tips so that would be one less thing to worry about.

With your sail and sign card you can put any amount of money you want on it. So whenever you purchase anything on the ship they will charge that card. Such charges could include drinks at bar, spa services, goods from the many stores or even for paying for your excursions tours.

If you choose to put cash on your card and you go over the amount that had on it then at the end of the cruise you will receive a bill for the balance that you owe carnival.

If you choose to use a debit card then Carnival holds all the money in the account. I use to work for them so I can swear by this. For example if you have bills that are automatically deducted from your account while you are on the cruise those bills could bounce. Its best to use either cash or a credit card.

Sure. It's like a credit card. You get it when you are on the cruise and use it towards any purchases. So when you go to the bar to get a drink, they swipe your card, you sign a receipt and you're good to go. No messy money transactions and no endless use of your real credit card. Then at the end of the cruise, you pay your balance.

Have a great cruise!!!

You will not pay for stuff w/ cash on the boat. When you want alcohol drinks and stuff like that, you will use your card. You are given the card when you arrive on the ship. You will either need to have a credit card or cash for them to issue you a sign and sail card. You then use the sign and sail like it is a credit card. The ship does not want to deal w/ the cash at all the bars and stores. You can keep track of how much you are spending, by asking for a print out or (I think) on the tv in your room.

Super Simple~

1) No cash is handled on the ship except in the Casino...

2) Your sign and sail card is your ticket to get on and off the ship...

3) Your sign and sail card is credit card to use while you are on the ship...

On most ships, also your room key.

Avoids the need to deal in cash for on-board purchases. Balance is typically charged to your credit card at the conclusion of the trip.

For some people, makes it more difficult to budget because it is so easy to hand someone the card. Many of the newer ships allow you to monitor the balance via the in-room television.

well its your room key and also u can buy stuff at the gift shops with it and pay after the ship and theres a drink card thats 30 or 15 dollars (depending on the day os cruise days) you can buy instead of buying a drink every time

Its basically your ID on the boat. It is also used as a Credit Card and a Room Key Card. They assign it to you at the beginning of emarkation & you get to keep it after the cruise. During the cruise you can purchase products on the boat from stores, or bars etc. when buying products, you will sign the receipt like a credit card. You also use the card to get into your own room. When boarding from a port you use it as your ID, they use this by taking a photo of you just before you enter the doors of the ship (be prepared =P). You can check your credit bill on your interactive tv guide. Note: food on boats, excluding candy, is free, however drinks are not & can be quite expensive depending on what you order.

yea its pretty simple, you use it like you would a credit card. When you get a drink for instance the waiter/waitress will take your card and put the tab on that, then bring you a receipt. Basically this keeps you from having to have any actual cash on the cruise to purchase things like drinks. I am not sure if you use it in the gift shops or not, but I do know that you do use it to purchase pictures. Just be careful because you want get the bill till the day you leave so make sure you try and keep up with it a little bit.

The sail and sign card is a card that all of your charges go on, like a credit card. You can buy drinks and souvenirs on board with it. But, they will aunomatically put tips on your card, so be sure to go to the Pursers desk to take the tips off if you don't want to pay the suggested amount. Have fun!
