Hi,,,, hmmm,, i cannot believe no one has answered this question yet... with all the Texans that are in here... they must be asleep...
Ok,,, Houston Bush Intl... to Galviston,, about 2 hours or so.. depending on the traffic,, maybe less... 1 hour......
I would check if the cruse lines has a shuttle,,, a taxi is going to be expensive for sure.....
Or where are you spending the night,,, if in Galviston ,, at one of the hotels,,, they may have a shuttle service....
The San Louis.. in Galviston,,, is Primo..... its on the right side of the road after you cross on the ferry....... You cant miss it.....and the prices arent that bad .......call ahead if you want.....
Good luck and have fun..... |

call your travel agent and ask them to arrange for a transfer to and from the cruise. Usually this can be done when booking, If you booked it yourself go to your site and there should be a link for this service. You may also arrange a pick up and return through a local taxi or Limo service. Houston airport may have providers/shuttles handy as Galveston is the port of origin for several cruises. Hope this helps |

Hey were also going on a cruise and it took me days to figure all this out- so I hope you can use some of this info. We are flying into Bush and leaving from Port of Houston which is north of Galveston. If you're flying in early- at least a day before, rent a car and drive there. You can pick up Enterprise cars at the airport and leave them at an Enterprise office near your destination. The issue is which day of the week you're leaving. Finding an Enterprise office open a Sunday would be next to impossible. If you're leaving any other day, then you could easily drop off your rental car. Just check and make sure there is an Enterprise office in Galveston. You can check on their website. Ground transportation from the airport to Galveston will probably be in $100 range. It's about an hour away. We're picking up our car at the airport, driving to Kemah- which is just north of Galveston- staying overnight- dropping our car off in Seabrook- just north of Kemah and having Kay's Transportation pick us up at Seabrook and take us to the port. I found Kay's on the web with good recommendations. I compared prices and they were the cheapest. Their phone number is 832-265-5049. I also made arrangements for this same company to pick us up at the port upon our return and take us to the airport ($75 from Port of Houston to Bush International) Their price was the same as the NCL cruise company's shuttle, but they're so nice and helpful I decided the mom & pop business needs my money more. Tell them I recommended their service- maybe they'll give me a discount- just kidding. Have a great trip- you're going to love it. P.S. There's a restaurant in Kemah that come highly rated called T-bone Toms 707 Highway 146 suppose to be fun and have great food. |

The best thing to do is to use the cruise line's shuttle/transfer service. Its cheaper than a taxi and renting a car is a hassle because of the drop off at the Galveston car rental place as you will have to take a taxi from there to the ship. The shuttle service is not that expensive. They will meet you at the airport baggage claim and take your luggage & make sure it gets on the ship. It is the most convenient way.
Even though you have paid for your cruise, you can still call the cruise line or have your travel agent do it, and sign up and pay for the transfers. Its not too late and its the best way to go. As a travel agent in Houston.....I should know.
There is also another private bus/shuttle that leaves from the airports but they charge a little more and you have to know where to go to get it. At Hobby airport, they are about 1/10 of a mile away, but to take your luggage and walk there is not the smartest/safest thing to do. Taxis don't want passengers that go that short of a distance. |

I went on that cruise!
Well I went on the Carnival Elation July 2005.
Im in Milwaukee and I flew to Houston.
Which then I needed to go to Galveston.
Fly in a day prior. ALWAYS In case of flight delay, ect.
We rented a car, once you get into Bush Int'l Outside is a Shuttle that will take you to the rental car counters, (you will see signs) You can get the car there and drop it off in Galveston which isnt too far from the port. You will just have to possibly take a cab from the rental car place in Galveston to the Port. DONT SPLIT FROM YOUR PARTY. Unless you have an exact meeting place.
Call the rental car company, they will be more than happy to help you, I am not sure which one we used but here is a few.
Dollar
Budget
Enterprise
Avis
Hertz
I believe that we used Hertz, but I cant be certain
Good Luck
P.S. If I remember correctly the ride is about 2 hours (houston to galveston) So a cab would be way to expensive. |

i think a taxi would be better to go from houston to galveston.
it will be about 45 min to an hour drive. |

you could probably find a taxi cab, but be aware...it will be expensive. It's about an hour drive. First though, i would call your cruise line to see if there will be a bus to take you. On both of the cruises I went on, there was a bus to take you to the ship. |
