How can you get alcohol on a cruise ship to keep onboard cost down?

We are set to sail the end of March. We don't want to end up spending so much money on alcohol. We have heard that the tab can go up rather fast on the ship. Is there certain items that they will not check so you can sneak on alcohol? Should it be in the check in luggage? Any and all tips are greatly appreciated!

Just bring it.. worst thing that'll happen is they confiscate it.

No problem. just put a couple pints in your luggage. Everyone does it. Then keep it in the cabinet next to your hotel safe. Cabin steward never looks there. Even if they would see it, they are unlikely to worry about it. They want to be as nice to you as humanly possible so you'll come back as a repeat guest.
I bring a small amount with, but still buy some beer on board. It's a good idea to check your Sea Pass or Sail & Sign account at the purser's desk periodically to make sure you're not over spending. Also, you can find a beer joint at the ports of call. Even at Cozumel, I found a place on the west end of the shopping strip with 75c beer!! No, cerveza!!!
Another cost saving tip for a cruise is if you see a tee shirt in the on board store you like, wait till about day 6 to buy it. They always discount things near the end of the cruise.
Oh, one final bit of advise. If you buy beer on the lido deck, get it in 4 bottle buckets. You'll save $1.50
Bon Voyage!!!

You can not bring any alchol onto any of the ships wheter it is royal caribbean or carnival its against the law. unless you bring it on board into your suitcase without them knowing it. But to bring any booze on board is simply against the law. We know it was taken from our hand carry on luggage when we arrived. If you are not so sure call the carnival and ask them I need to bring my medications and i need liquid vitiams and diabetic liquids and that is allowed.

The drinks on the ship are not that expensive like 4.00 a drink allow so much on drinking we allowed 200.00 extra dollars on extra meals, drinking and gambling and espresso.

Okay. Realize that I have not tried any of the following and that you will use the following ideas at your own risk:

1) Definitely bring a large bottle of "Evian" in your carry-on
2) Bring your thrapeutic water pillow. (This may cost you a few dollars, but it sounds like your savings will be worth it. They can hold a quart or two easy.)
3) Anything like an opaque shampoo bottle (Pert Plus or something similar) could be opened and a pint bottle could be fit in there. Make sure to leave shampoo in the bottle, so that it can be checked. Also will keep it from rattling.
4) Make a pan or two of electric Jell-o and seal it in a Ziploc bag, then fit it into the panels or padding of your suitcase. I know this is a stretch; you wanted ideas. Sue me.

Anyway. Good luck. Hope any/all of this helps. Have a good cruise. Remember: we never had this conversation...

I am a travel agent so I probably shouldnt tell you this but I do it so who cares =). I went on a Carnival Cruise in April and my friends stocked about 5 bottles of alcohol in their suitcase to be checked in. We all kinda wondered what would happen. When our luggage returned to our room we checked it and ALL bottles where still there. We had a brand new bottle of Crown that was still in the box. We could tell that Carnival opened the box but the alcohol was still there. So definately bring some alcohol or sodas in your luggage. The worst thing that would happen is they would take it and give it back to you at the end of the cruise. P.S. we figured something else out too. If you buy alcohol onshore during the cruise they check it in and keep it until the duration of the cruise. Buy 2 bottles. When you get back on the boat and they tell you to drop off your alcohol, just drop off one bottle. Then take the other to your room. We did this and it worked like a charm. ( just have a towel or bag for the other bottle.)

Buy a large therapeutic water pillow, the ones used for keeping sore joints warm. Get the largest size you can. Then buy some bottles of reasonably-priced alcohol; priced low enough to save you money, but not so cheap that you can't stand the taste of it. Pour the alcohol into the therapeutic water pillow. Wrap it in something waterproof, and pack it your suitcase.

Assuming you'll want some sodas to use as mixers or chasers, just get the soda card from the cruise line, or buy some soda bottles at an onboard shop. Mix the soda with the alcohol you brought, and feel the buzz.

I've been on quite a few cruises...my family and I always put our alcohol in plastic containers - I have heard rumors that they scan all checked luggage for glass containers, so to be safe we put it in water bottles, rubbermaid plastic beverage containers, etc, then put those in ziploc bags to prevent spilling. have brought wine, vodka, rum, etc. onboard this way quite a few times without any problems. just make sure to seal everything tightly! good luck : ) have fun on your trip!

put it in your checked luggage and it will be fine. cabin stewards most likely will not report it even if you leave it out after opening it.
