The short answer is: you won't know how your body will react until you get there. You could be fine on small boats in choppy water, yet the soft ups and downs of ocean liner travel might mess with your head. It's kind of like riding in a car with a really soft suspension - gentle but constant and slow ups and downs. Some people get a little queezy. The trick is not to worry about it too much, and plan ahead by taking motion sickness pills with you. There are also time release patches you can put behind your ears that have the same medicine. Finally, if you can, try to book a cruise on a newer ship. Newer ships have stabilizer wings in the hull that can be extended in rougher water. You'll hardly feel any movement on board the newer ships.

If you can handle small boats and roller coasters - you will have no problem at all on a large cruise ship.

It depends on where you are going. Caribbean? Ship over 2,000 passengers? You'll be fine. I get motion sick in the back of smaller cars over one hour trips. I have no problem on large cruise ships.

Generally if you don't get sick on small boats (which move in waves much more) you shouldn't get sick on a large boat. If you are worried, buy ginger chews from Trader Joe's, ginger altoids, or another ginger snack as ginger helps with motion sickness.
