They have huge sewage treatment plants on cruise ships. Anything else is bagged and deposited in port... nothing can be thrown overboard now because of all the new laws... that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, though. |

Every piece of waste produced on a cruise ship is recycled or in the case of sewage it is treated and then dumped overboard. Modern cruise ships are like floating cities...they generate their own power, they recycle garbage, have sewage treatment plants...the whole nine yards. |

depends on the company, but most careful dont thrown anything overboard.

there is always an Environment officer in charge.
Also, they tend to dump the garbage in countries that charge less for it... usually poor countries. |

I know that the paper, plastics, cans and stuff like that is all kept on the lowest level of the ship until it stops at it's home base. |

Biodegradable stuff (food waste) can be dumped overboard well away from land. Anything else certainly not thrown overboard - or shouldn't be! - because of international regulations. Most ships have incinerators for combustible stuff, and sewage treatment plants that produce water clean enough to put back in the sea. Any other waste is stored until it can be taken ashore. |
