New policies were just announced by the US Passport office last week which allow you to bring proof of ID (a birth certificate) and print off of the internet a copy of the information that you have applied for a passport or bring other documentation that the passport has been applied for.

Check the Passport office web site for this latest information:

http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbp...

You can go to this web site and put in your information to check on the status of your passport. While you have the window open, print the information and that's all the proof you will need.

call the cruise line & find out exactly what you need... I think the US has lifted some regulations on the passport issue b/c of the type of delay you're experiencing.

good luck!!!!

This is a question for your travel agent. It all depends on where your going to go on the cruise. If your going for example to New England, you will not need a passport if your a US Citizen with a valid drivers license or state issued ID. If your going to a cruise to the caribbean you WILL need your passport both to get on the ship and to get off at the end. For shore excursions they request your sea pass and a valid id such as a drivers license. We never were asked to see our ID, the sail pass was all we ever used. If you don't have a travel agent, get in touch with Carnival or use their web site they give you all of those details.

If the cruise is to the Caribbean, then you do not need a passport. If you do need one, then you need a photo id, and your receipt for the passport application.

someones friend
If you are sailing in June 07 you won't need a passport ( that's a good thing ) I just had my passport renewed and it took 3 months for a renewal... You won't need anything but your birth certificate until Jan 01,08.
Have Fun....

You won't need a passport. So if you don't get it in time, don't sweat it.

If you don't get it, you will need an original or certified copy of your birth certificate, which you needed to apply for a passport, so you should be good there.

Also, because of the backlog of people applying for Passports, if you show your receipt showing that you have applied for a passport, that is being accepted in certain situations.

But if you don't get it, by the time you leave, be sure and bring your birth certificate with you.

Contact Carnival Cruise Lines, or your travel agent for further information.

Don't freak, kid. Do this. Get your travel ticket and go down to a passport office. Not a library or post office, the passport office. Show them what you've got. They'll do a trace and if it isn't up to snuff, long as you've got the required fotos and pertinent other information like you were gonna fill it out the first time on hand, they'll issue you one right there.

Have the fee ready. There. See? You freaked for nothing. Nothing, I tell you! Ick!
