How does travelling broaden our mind?

it may be in the positive n negative aspects

it gives us an opportunity to experience what the rest of the world is all about. For many of us, it helps us to come to grips with our own cultures, for instance, after having being to the US, I couldn't understand how a country that thrives on being the leader of the world market can have so much poverty, bigotry and a denial of basic human rights.

One of the ways it broadens your mind is that it puts you into contact with different people and different cultures. It allows you to experience the differences in others and realize that there is more out there than the small world that you normally live in.

Yes, Travelling allows you to see other people, how they live, other cultures, different ways of dealing with things. Even seeing how different societies are set up and run can open your mind to new ideas.

Travelling can broaden your mind in different ways. It is true that once I saw how some other parts of the world live and how they are ruled... I was so very thankful to be an American. But , I also came to appreciate how ancient the world is. You can tell in many other countries how relatively young America is. The architecture and art in other countries have a different quality to them that brings the age difference to light. And one of the most inspiring things I have discovered is that deep down inside none of us are all that different. Each person is unique - yes... but as a whole we are essentially the same... with the same kinds of hopes and dreams.... same kinds of goals... same feelings. It gives me hope that one day we will all be able to settle our differences...

There are different ways of traveling. When I do, I try to talk to as many people as I possibly can, visiting awhile, getting their points of view. That, to me, is more important than seeing all the sights.

One major opportunity to meet locals is to look for the restaurants where local people eat--to avoid chains and franchises, as much as possible.

I also enjoy staying in Mom and Pop, independently owned motels, when I can find a nice one.

But those who can't travel (and many can't possibly afford it now), can broaden their horizons by reading and by watching informative TV shows about other places.

It makes me thank God that I was born in America and live here.

Wow - where do I start?
I started living in Hawaii before it was a state - YES I am that old. Then lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, GERMANY for 4 years and then back to Pennsylvania.

Traveling is much different than living abroad.
Traveling - you get a glimpse of how others live, eat, work, travel, the weather, and how others enjoy themselves.
Living abroad you get to see what RIGHTS YOU DO NOT HAVE WHEN YOU LEAVE THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD - THE GOOD OLD USA!

Traveling - you get shuffled around and sometimes feel like cattle. Ships-cruises, Train, car trips, airlines - you must find out the safest, most enjoyable way to get to your destination.
Sometimes - cruises for example are almost a destination in themselves for the "fun" that they offer and they feed you and feed you and feed you.
Now a cruise to Alaska is something I am looking forward to for both the adventure of a cruise and the adventure of the destination.

The biggest negative is the unknown of the area. However with the internet, you can get travel information, site information and some have online pictures and video's of your destination and/or mode of travel.
You are also leaving your "safe zone" where you know your surroundings, and your family and friends - - which may be a negative or a postitive (LOL).

TRAVEL is a worthwhile lifetime experience.
Sometimes you may meet people and the friendships can last. Sometimes it makes you appreciate what you left behind you. Sometimes it makes you miss your family.

GOD bless us always in all ways.

BTW, I love to travel and especially with the internet - we are now so much more informed before traveling.

squirrely
Seeing with your own eyes how most of the rest of the world lives. I doubt you would see any of that on a cruise though.
