How formal should i dress for Royal Caribbean formal nights?

Ooh! Interesting question. #3 is my pick, with 5-7 as strong contenders, but you've definitely got some options....

#1 is way too casual. Even though RCI isn't super-formal, you wouldn't fit in wearing a sun dress. That probably wouldn't even be OK in the dining room on a casual night.

#2 is probably OK on a casual night, but you'd be taking a chance on a formal night. It's unlikely they'd ask you to change, but it's a bit casual.

#3 is right-on. Fun, and also polished.

#4 is OK from a formality perspective, but, well, it's definitely not to my personal taste.

#5+6: Nice gowns. Flirty and fun, while fairly formal.

#7 is pretty formal, but FABulous. But I think this really only works if the guys in your group are wearing tuxes.

#3-#6 are all ok, I would say. The first two are more casual and the last one is a little too formal, unless your dinner partner will be wearing a tux.

Either way, you can always change after dinner is over and go back to more casual wear.
Some say that formal nights, you are expected to stay dressed up the rest of the night, but I just came back from a 7-nighter on the RC Liberty of the Seas, and many people went back to casual, or at least less formal, after dinner.

I think any of those choices are fine. I was surprised by the variety of clothes people wore for formal nights.

I think the official rule is no jeans or shorts in the formal dining room, but there is always the choice of going to the more casual buffet style dining during dinner. They don't give any exact specifics for formal dining nights; that's more up to you as long as there are no jeans or shorts.

When you walk in, a bunch of people line up to welcome you to dinner. My friend and I laughed about how they were secretly making sure no one broke the dress rules. But any of your dresses would be fine, but you might not feel as dressy in the first one....but I think even that would be fine. Some women even wore slacks.

For the Royal Carribean Cruise Lines there are two formal nights. On of them is the captain's night. The men should wear a nice shirt with dress pants, and nice shoes. The women should wear a pretty dress. No shorts or a t-shirt. Pretty much the same thing for the regular formal night, but you can go easier on what the men are wearing.

3, 5, and 6 are all good choices. Judging by the royal caribbean cruises I've been on, that's very typical of what women wear. I'm going on a cruise in 3 days myself. Can't wait! Have fun on yours!

Ok, 1 and 2 are too informal for dinner. But 5 and 6 are too formal i would say. I would get a cocktail dress which is like an evening gown but shorter. Many people wear dresses down to their knees which would be considered a cocktail dress. Don't get an evening or prom dress for an expensive price if you are only going to wear it for one night. I would say look around at dillards for the shorter dresses. Some people choose to dress up and some don't. And remember, You can never be overdressed.

I personally would go with 5 or 6. I've been on a cruise on the Carnival and the clothes really do range from Simi-Causual to VERY (like Prom) formal. It also depends on how comfortable you are in the clothes. They offer photo opps on the cruise, so you will be able to take pictures (with backgrounds) on the cruise. I also suggest that you take a light sweater, bc the nights can be chilly.
The First one, I believe would be too causual, even for a regular nights dinner in the dining room.
Side note: most cruise ships on RC have very nice stairways, which makes for wonderful pictures! Think Titanic!

The best answer to this question is to dress accordingly to how those in your party are dressed. If the guys are doing tuxes then go with a more formal dress. If the guys are doing suit and tie then go a bit less formal. the only rules for formal night are dresses for the ladies and suit and tie for the guys. anything else is up to you !

Formal night are just that, formal... the men should wear tuxedos and the women should wear equally formal attire.
