How likely is it to be told you can't board a cruise ship if you are pregnant over 24 weeks? ? |
Is there anyone who has worked for a ship and can verify how/if they look at doctors notes? Do people really get turned away? |

People do get turned away from cruise ships if they are past what the cruise lines a safe term time.
Some lines are 24 weeks pregnant , some are 27 weeks pregnant and some are 28 weeks pregnant.
Here's an extract from an article from the link below which explains why the cruise lines are so particular.
"Going on a cruise sounds so therapeutic that it almost seems silly to have a chapter on the health hazards of cruising while you are pregnant. There are enough health risks involved, though, that most cruise lines will deny you boarding if you are more than twenty-eight weeks along at the time of the cruise.
The reason for this is that the closer you get to your due date, the more likely it is that you will suffer from premature labour or other obstetrical complications. Obstetrical emergencies tend to occur without warning and are often life threatening. A cruise ship is usually equipped with an excellent emergency and triage unit and well trained staff. They are not prepared, however, to handle major obstetrical emergencies. And if a ship is a long way from port, it may be as long as twenty four hours before you could expect to get competent help."
It is advised that you contact the cruise lines prior to booking in case of any changes to their policies. The majority of the cruise lines will require a medical certificate to confirm you are in a fit state to travel, even if you are within their guideline dates. |

Look at it this way-Do you really want to take the risk of being out in the middle of the ocean with limited medical equipment if something goes wrong? You could be perfectly healthy, but things do happen. |

Due September 17th with baby #1
|
If you are into or past your 24th week of Pregnancy then it is almost definate that you will not be able to cruise. The reason being is due to premature labor. This is a very crutial time in a pregnancy and no risks should be taken. I am a travel agent and have also sailed on many cruises myself and I ALWAYS get asked by the cruise lines if a woman is pregnant when I am booking or finalizing a cruise. Just because someone may have never heard of it does not mean that it is not an issue. The back of most brochures as well as the facts or questions page on a Cruise site will confirm this information for you.
What is Carnival's policy regarding guests who are pregnant?
Guests who are 24 weeks or more into their pregnancy on the date of embarkation will not be allowed to sail. Pregnant women less than 24 weeks must submit, prior to departure, a letter from her attending physician certifying the gestational period and that the expecting mother is fit to sail.http://www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/Pregnancy_Policy.aspx
Q: What is Royal Caribbean's policy on cruising while pregnant?
A: Royal Caribbean International cannot accept guests who will have entered their 24th week of pregnancy by the beginning of, or at any time during the cruise or cruisetour. A physician's "Fit to Travel" note is required prior to sailing, stating how far along (in weeks) your pregnancy will be at the beginning of the cruise and confirming that you are in good health and not experiencing a high-risk pregnancy. The "Fit to Travel" note should be faxed to the Access Department at 1-954-628-9622. Please contact us at 1-866-592-7225 or at special_needs@rccl.com if you have already booked a cruise or cruisetour and do not meet this requirement.

What if I'm pregnant?
NCL will make every effort to accommodate you, providing you have not entered the 24th week of pregnancy when the cruise ends. Please include your cruise details in an email to the Access Desk with a medical certificate establishing your due date prior to your cruise.

If you are indeed refering to yourself being pregnant then you should have had plenty of time to cancel or reschedule your cruise before penalties began. Being in the middle of the ocean and going into premature labor I am sure is not your idea of a fun cruise. This is for your and your baby's safety. Also, if they allowed women to sail pregnant then there would be alot of births and emergencies onboard causing the ship to stop and ruin everyone elses cruise. This can be a big insurace issue too. |

Time travler
|
It is very likely you will not be able to go on a cruise if you are 24 weeks pregnant. The rules on most if not all cruise ships have a cut off date of how many weeks pregnant you can be. Before you cruise, you must fill out papers and part of the questions are are you pregnant. At 24 weeks, you can not hide that and they may very well ask for a doctors note to prove you are not more then 24 weeks pregnant. They can turn you down from boarding for other reasons too, like not having the proper identification. |

from a cruise /travel online seller: (to the question;Am I allowed to cruise if I am pregnant?)
While the cruise line always has the final say, the usual rule is that you are allowed to cruise up until your third trimester. Some cruise lines will NOT allow you to sail if you are over 24 weeks pregnant. Others want a signed letter from your doctor stating your expected delivery date and the term of your pregnancy. This varies by cruise line and you should always check the individual cruise line's policy when planning your vacation. Of course, if air travel is also involved, it is important to also check the policy of the airline.
