If you are traveling by ship, you do not need a passport until 2008. I would highly recommend getting one now, so you do not have to worry about it later. If you are over the age of 18, the passports are good for 10 years and a new passport will take 6 weeks and a renewal will take 4 weeks. All you need to do is go to your local post office and apply.

Since you didnt specify when you are cruising, this is what I just recieved from the cruise line I always travel on.

The U.S. Department of State recently announced an extension of the proposed implementation timeline for the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. When enacted, travelers to and from a foreign country (including the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada) must have a valid passport or other secure, accepted document* to enter or re-enter the U.S. The revised proposed timeline is as follows:
January 8, 2007 â€“ Valid passport or other accepted document* required for all air travel to or from the U.S.
June 1, 2009 â€“ Valid passport or other accepted document* required for all travel to or from the U.S. (air, sea or land)
Although the requirement to possess a valid passport for sea and land border crossings has been extended to June 1, 2009, the government can accelerate this date based on meeting certain criteria.

Please note that effective January 8, 2007, all cruise guests entering or re-entering the United States by air are required to have valid passports. U.S. cruise guests who travel by air to embark in Vancouver for Alaska cruises and Canadian cruise guests who travel by air to embark in U.S. ports are required to have valid passports for all cruises terminating on or after January 8, 2007. Foreign nationals should contact their respective governments to obtain details regarding current passport requirements.

All cruise guests must present the required documentation at embarkation. Cruise guests without required documentation will be denied boarding and no refund will be issued. Holland America Line will strictly enforce this requirement in compliance with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.

first you should know how to spell Cozumel if thats what you mean

The same amount of time it takes to get a passport to travel to Cozumel, Mexico.

Routine passports take up to 6 weeks - I got mine in about 2. However, you cannot count on this and need to apply at least 6 weeks before you leave.

You can request expidited service which takes closer to 2 weeks.

There are also regional passport offices available to travelers traveling within 2 weeks. Proof of travel date is required. This is not typically your local post office but rather a regional passport agency.

I don't beleive you need a passport for Mexico? Just picture id..Of course a passport is a great idea and we will need them eventually. I went to Mexico last year and didn't need a passport.Just forms of ID.Hope this helps and HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!

currently an american citizen does not need a passport for a cruise that begins and ends in the united states, regardless of where it stops. Cruise ships do not have to show passports because they are not staying in a particular place. you are living on the ship.
