How long is the average cruise?

The shortest cruises are 2 to 3 days (1 port of call, or what they call a "cruise to nowhere" where you just go out to sea and sail around in circles). They then vary from 4 to 8 days for most cruises, depending on how far they go and the number of ports of call. But, longer cruises are available. For example, there's a 15 day cruise that goes from the west coast of North America and circles Hawaii, stopping at 4 or 5 ports throughout the islands. Or, a 16 day Panama Canal crossing from one coast to the other. Some cruise lines will take you halfway around the world in about 30 days. And, others will take you around the world in 60 days or more.

But, I would say that most cruises are from 4 to 7 days.

3-7 days is usually the plan for a cruise. Some are longer. I once went on one with my husband that lasted for 9 nights and 10 days.

dvdclarke
4 days

Time travler
The average cruise is 7 to 10 days. But I have been on a cruise as long as 29 days and Princess has world cruises that are over 100 days. My favorite cruises are the 10 to 14 day ones.

There is no such thing as an "average cruise". Cruises on the major lines that depart from US ports can be from one day (Norwegian cruise lines has 1-day cruises from Miami, NY and Seattle) to every length from 3 to 15 days and then some that are 60 to over 100 days and tour half the world.

If you go to any cruise line web site you can search for cruises starting with one day and going up to more than 14 days. In between you'll find options for cruises of 2, 3 ,4, 5, 7, 8, 9, and 12 days. MOST of the cruises will be in this range. Some cruise lines like Princess and Holland America have regular cruises that are 30 to 60 days or so. There will be fewer cruises in this range than in the smaller number of days. Then some other cruise lines have cruises called "world cruises" that may be 100 to 150 days or so. The longest I have ever seen was 166 days. You may find only 3 or 4 cruises per year in this range.
