How much is food on a cruise ship?

Show all answers

Noble Angel
all food is included in your fare including the dinning room

the only exceptions are things like specialty shops:
supper club, coffee shops, etc
you also pay for all alcohol

Richard M
All meals are included in your cruise fare. You can eat yourself into pain! I use to say if I didn't gain 10 pounds I did not have a good time!

Ah... there are some ships that impose an additional charge if you are upgrading to a Gourmet or Specialty Restaurant.
For the most part though, on most lines the food is included and you can eat all you want. Want to try two entrees...go right ahead, no charge!

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
ALL of the food is free. That includes all meals in the main dining restaurant, the buffet, and various other places that may have pizza and snacks, room service (24/7 free service) and food in specialty restaurants. HOWEVER, there is always a gratuity/ service charge for meal in the specialty restaurants. The gratuity/service charge can range from $5.00 to $20.00 per person each time you go to one of these specialty eating places. In these places you can usually order what you want and that can be anything on the menu and a "seconds" if you want it is also free.

Most cruise ships have a couple such restaurants but Norwegian Cruise line usually has 8 or 9 specialty eating places. NCL promotes the use of these "alternative" dining options as a part of their "Freestyle" cruising. SO if you go on an NCL ship be careful or you will end up paying a bunch to eat in these places.

Coffee, tea, milk, juices, and punches are also free (except they may charge for Starbucks coffee. But you will have to pay for all alcoholic beverages and soft drinks. These will add a bunch to your bill also. Some ships have free ice cream stations, but they may also have a Ben and Jerry's place where you have to pay.

Food is included in the fare. They have some venues that they charge a premium for use, such as Johnny Rocket's or the supper clubs.

Basic food is always included. On most cruise lines there are "main" restaurants where you can eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner for free. These ships also usually have free 24hr room service and some type of buffet or casual restaurant for free as well.
Other cruise lines, such as NCL, have many diffrent restaurants some free some and some with a small charge. For example the NCL Dawn has a Japanese restaurant with all you can eat Sushi for $10. But, if you are on the Dawn and you don't want to pay extra you will still have other choices similar to the ones I just mentioned on the other lines.

Bottom line...on a cruise food is the last thing you need to worry about.

Bring "fat" pants!!

Well, when we went on our cruise the food was all free. There was a small shop that had special deserts that were for a price and you have to give a tip for room service when they deliver food. Other than that the only thing you had to pay for were drinks (tea, water, and some juice were free too).
Another place that you had to pay for food was the special dining room- but I don't know why you would go there when the food in the regular dining room was so good.
The food was absolutely delicious too!

All food is included (greatest thing)
Drinks may be extra depending on the cruise line you are on. There is so much all inclusive top quality food you will definatly gain weight if you dont hit the onboard gym

While most food is free on a cruise ship, usually the ships have one very fine dinning place. You might have to pay for this one. Also, cruise ships charge for beverages. Esp. alcoholic ones. That is where they get the money off of you.

Food is included in the price of your ticket. Some ships have extra-price restaurants, but food in the main dining rooms and the lido deck cafe are free of charge. As far as drinks go, keep this in mind: alcohol and any name-brand beverage (ie. Coke) is extra.

eli_xy
In my experience, the food is prepaid and included in the total cost of the cruise trip. So basically it is free. I don't know if all cruises are like that though so you would probably want to check the cruises website or call.

All cruise ships normally have a couple fancy restaurants and a couple casual diners. Your family is normally paired with a different family at the fancy restaurant or you can eat wherever at the diner, but the food is always free. They strongly recommend you tip however, and alcohol and milk shakes are not normally free.

Samantha
Usually the food is free. The booze is usually not.

The best thing about cruises is most of the food is FREE! Everything from the all you can eat-buffets to the upscale dining room is free. There is also usually all you can eat icecream, pizza and sometimes even sushi. Usually on a cruise ship there are more exclusive and intimate restaurants located at the top of the ship which you will have to make reservations for and pay an additional fee. To me, it's not really worth it because the food in the dining room is just as declicious.

If you're cruising with Carnival keep in mind that if you're ever in a situation where you can't find something you like on the menu you can always order filet mignon. They'll never tell you no. Also, if you can't decided which of the entrees you want, you can always order more than one. Everytime my father cruises he orders 3 shrimp cocktails for an appetizers and usually 2 entrees and multiple deserts (and he's not even a fat guy!). Your waiters and waitresses will pay close attention to what you like and will pick up on things like you ordering the same desert every night. For instance, my dad never has to order dessert because they figure out he always gets to the same thing.

Have a blast on your cruise!

You don't pay for food.

Duane T
You're Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner and snacks should be included unless specified otherwise. Check out the cruise line information for details. Wine and liquor is normally paid for by you except when you're in a casino.

BigTomz
most of the time it is included in the price of the ship at most of the places to eat.

In most cases the food is free and you pay for the alcohol and in some cases the sodas cost as well. Depends on the cruise line.
