How much money do you think I would need If I where going on a 7 day cruise?

Leaving N.Y. with Port of Calls in the Bahamas area.
Food and Transportation are covered in the purchase price.
What other expenses are there and how expensive are things?

Most cruises require that you put a "gratuity" of $200 for a 5 day cruise and they they will give you a "credit" card...when you buy something, such as a Coke, they will swipe your card to deduct the cost...you have to be careful b/c there are something that are not included! I would recommend that you take at least $500-$1000. You will find so many things that are alot cheaper in the Gulf.
Good luck...and hope you have great fun....there is so much to do on cruises that your cruise will be over before you know it! You will be surprised on how many ppl that you know or are from you area that you will meet!

I'd say a minimum of $500.00. You might want to gamble on board the ship; there are also a lot of activities on the islands in the Bahamas (snorkeling, jet skiing, etc). You also want to consider duty free shopping as well. I've been on a few cruises in the past, and my own rule of thumb is take a look at what I'm taking and then re-pack with half as much clothing and twice as much cash. The policy has served me well. Have a great trip !!!

Bring several hundred if you can. You MUST give them a credit or debit card to charge stuff on the ship. You can pay the charges with cash at the end if you don't want to charge it and pay interest on it. Also some of the ports you'll be at little shops that only take cash.

If you drink alcohol you will pay a fortune for that on board, and they don't let you carry on bottles. This is our single biggest expense when we cruise, we are partiers.

Solution- buy bottles and stow in CHECKED luggage. Nobody looks in there, they just deliver it to your room for you. Mixers can be found on the ship for free or very minimal charge. That will save you a bundle. Also, buy sunscreen & all that summer stuff on sale (off season) rather than pay full price once you are at your destination.

I hope you have a blast!

I don't drink or gamble, so I have it easy. I just took a five day cruise to Grand Cayman and Cozumel, and the whole thing cost about $400 for both ports and costs on the ship including gratuities. This was for four people.

at the very LEAST $400 cash! And that's if you're eating every meal on the boat. Have fun!

$400 should do it

Go to the cruise's website... they'll give you an idea of what to spend on tipping for your cabin crew, table crew, and diningroom manager... yup. You must tip all of them at the end of the week. As for the Bahamas, you are going to want to participate in on-shore excursions - i.e. dolphin center, tours, etc... these can be pricey - so check the cruise site for those costs. Other than that, I would plan on about $100 a day (conservatively) for spending money! Remember, alcohol is EXTRA on board your cruise!!! There is some great shopping in the Bahamas... so take a credit card or cash for that as well!!

It really depends on what you want to do on this cruise. If you want to drink a lot (alcoholic drinks are not included in the price), do a little gambling, do some shopping, these are all extra. Another extra expense is on-shore excursions. If you want to join these groups tours/activities, that's going to cost extra, and they're not cheap. You also have to give tips to the dining room staff and the stateroom attendants.

You will need money for four (4) things:

(1) Gratuities should be about $75, per person for a 7 day cruise and you can put this on your charge card if you want.

(2) drinks will run about $5.50 to $6.00 each, a little less if you ask for the non-souvenier glass. Beerabout $4.00. All will have a tip added to your bill. So depends on how much you drink; you can put your tab on acredit card also.

(3) Souveniers will depend upon how much you plan to shop;if you don't plan to buy much you will not need much money.

(4) Tours or excursions from the ship will cost a lot, maybe a minimum of $50 a person to up to $150. for some. You can put this on your credit card also.

When you checkin on ship you will be given a combination room key/credit card which you will use for ALL purchases on ship (1,2,3 and 4 above). These will be charged to your credit card based on an account that will be set up when you check in. So, the real question is how much cash will you need and the answer depends on how much shopping you plan to do in placeswhere a credit card is not accepted AND,how much you plan to spend in the casino on ship.

So, you can take a couple hundredin cash and you will be fine and if you need moreyou can do either of two things, go to the ATM that is on ship (charge may be $4.50 for a withdrawal) OR, go to the casino and get some cash on your room account from the teller window.

kristen_truman
You need to pay for all your drinks, if you purchase photos, shore excursions, some of the extra food (for example, Royal Carribean ships with a Seattle's best coffee offer everything there free, but Ben and Jerry's you have to pay for), and souveniers.

You will want to check with the line you are on for the amount of the gratuities. HAL is 10 per person per day, but it is also adjustable and 90% of other cruise lines make you pay this fee weather you want to or not. Princess is $20 per person per day. They will also run your card a certain amount of money at the beginning of the cruise for incidentals HAL is $60 per day. If you do not use that much they will release what funds you have not spent. This is the same process used in any hotel

1Cheapcruise
Depends on how much you drink ---i like to drink so i'm at least 60 -90 a day --after the tip --

Noble Angel
you still need tips about $10 a day Carnival and $15 a day with Royal Caribbean

you will need money for the port of call about $100 each average. You may not spend that at all port but better safe than sorry.

O and Nassau is smaller than it looks walk around first then if you want a cab they are everywhere and $25 a person for about 2 hrs
