How much money to spend on a Cruise?

For a 3 or 4 night cruise to the Bahamas, how much should my wife and I take for spending money.

We plan on eating on board only. We don't drink alcohol. We won't really buy any souvenirs.

It would be on either Norwegian or Royal Caribbean.

Again, only wanting an idea on spending money, not how much for the cruise itself.

My suggestion is about $200 would do it and that's so you can buy a thing or two at the straw market in the Bahamas. That's about the only place you will need cash. Cruise ships are essentially cashless; you give the ship your credit card number when you board and any and everything you may want that has a charge while you are on the ship goes on your on-board tab that is charged to the credit card at the end of your cruise. You don't need cash for tipping or buying anything on ship, except the casino. You'll generally need about $5.00 to tip the porters when they take your bags at the ship, maybe another couple dollars or so to tip the server if you order the free room service, and then whatever you might spend in the casino and in the straw market.

By the way, its a good idea to take a bunch of one and five dollar bills if you plan to bargain with the vendors in the straw market. Its kinda tacky to barter a vendor down to $7 for something and then give him/her a $20 to pay for it; better to hand over just the $7.00.

$300.00, $200.00 it really is a personal decision.

you need to remember that it is suggested that you tip 10.00 per person per day of your cruise.

you might want some money for markets in PORT.

also soda card on board (includes a 15% gratuity automatically) somewhere around 40 to 50 dollars for your cruise

enjoy your cruise.

Even if you drink soft drinks, it will cost you on the ship, so you will still have to spend some.

I would say for a 3-4 night cruise, I would suggest you take about $500.

You never know what may happen or who knows, you may decide to buy something!

You should have money for tips and such, so I think it would be best to have a stash of cash on you to handle things that come up.

Hope it helps.

First off I will say AVOID Royal caribbean at all cost. i know this is not your question so let me move on.

On the ship you will want to buy photos. Depending on the event they will cost $10.00; $15.00; $20.00 per photo. They will also take photos of you at random points during the cruise and whenever you get off the ship. The photos are usually very good and you will not want to pass them. I would say take minimally $200.00 for pictures alone. (better to have enough than not enough)

You can also purchase a soda card for less than $30.00 per person that will allow you to drink as much soda as you want for the entire cruise.

The tips should be less than $150.00 for both for the entire cruise.

Usually my husband and I plan on buying at least one bottle of wine for our dinner companions just out of courtesy. We are not drinkers either but if you are sitting with others it's a nice gesture. You should be able to get a nice bottle for less than $50.00.

I would recommend that you take an additional $200.00 for incidentals just because it's better to have it and go back home with it than to not have it and want it.

Most of your purchases on board will be put on your ship card which will be linked to your credit card so it's not so much that you will need cash. Just make sure your have the proper amount of credit available. They will also let you link the ship card to a cash account if you don't have a credit card but I find it's easier to link it to the credit or bank card. You can go to the guest relations desk at any time and get a statement of your account so you can keep track of it.

The cruise line is like a movie you pay to get in but they make their money off everything you buy once you are there. I would have at least have $700.00 available and that is a very low estimate. I did not include anything for the islands or the excursions. Of course it can be done on less but if you are going to go on a cruise why not have the extra money to do or buy what you may not anticipate that you will want.

Buy the free sodas card on board that should run $40 or so per, and you will want money for tips... if you're not buying souveneirs, food, or drinks (all of which can be paid for with a credit card on board ship) Then tipping is really your only expense... expect about $10-$15 per day for that

You could get away with $100 each... assuming that you might want to buy souveneirs or some other incidentals. Plan $200 each, if you bring some home great. Add to that anything you won't mind losing gambling and you have your total ;) Have fun!

You cannot spend any cash on a cruiseship - it's all done on your sail and sign account which is a card you get when you board. Every single purchase you make on board from the spa, to souvenirs and drinks is no cash allowed.
You will spend almost nothing at all on the ship if you don't drink and don't want any souvenirs, so it's just while in port you'll be spending money. I usually count on 100.00 per port day so if you are going to 2 different ports you'll need about 200.00.
