How rocky is the cruise from Canada to Alaska? |
I went on it 10 years ago and I can't remember. My friend went on a Mexico cruise a few months ago when there was a wind advisory. They couldn't even get off at Catalina island because it was sooo windy. Anyways she said she didn't feel good (seasickness) on the ship and even a week after getting off. Now she is thinking of cancelling her trip to Alaska. I told her I don't remember it being to rocky. Can anyone give their input?
Thanks! |

I just returned from an Alaskan cruise through the Inside Passage (Seattle, WA; Juneau, AK; Skagway, AK; Tracy Arm Fjord, AK; Ketchikan, AK; Victoria, BC; and back to Seattle, WA) via the Golden Princess, and the seas aren't rough at all. Quite the opposite, actually! There is slight rockiness from Seattle to Juneau and Victoria to Seattle, as they're more open seas, but cruising the Inside Passage is very smooth. Tell her not to cancel her trip because she'd be missing the scenery of a lifetime! Alaska is GORGEOUS. |

Cruising on the open Pacific Ocean for example to Mexico or Hawaii CAN be very rocky. In general sailing from Vancouver to Alaska isn't. You are closer to the land and surrounded by various land formations to break the waves. Of course if there is a bad storm nearby, things could be different. |

I went cruising Alaska a few years ago and it was fine. We had one night where the weather was a little rough but it didn't make me seasick at all. I wouldn't cancel the trip on the chance it might be rough. Its worth the trip! |

WE cruised the inside passage to Alaska a few years ago and the ride was very smooth. We went on a Princess ship. But it does get very cold near the glaciers in particular (like hat, coat and glove weather) and it can be breezy at night. It will most likely rain in Ketchkan. |

I sailed to Alaska, the inside passage cruise. The water was calm up and back. The following year my friends went and had calm seas too. The inside passage is not the open sea. The water is rarely "rocky." Tell your friend to start her seasick pills or apply the patch one hour before she boards the ship. She shouldn't have any problems. |

The inside passage is considered one of the comest of all crouse routes. |
