The hurricane season runs June through the end of October each year and so if you are cruising in the Caribbean there is always a chance of a hurricane during that time period. BUT, there are other options for good cruises during that same time period. First, you can cruise to Mexico, the Mexican Rivera its called, from West Coast ports in Los Angeles and San Diego. You would cruise to ports like Cabo San Lucas, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, and/or Mazatlan. Here's one on a Royal Caribbean ship: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/cruiseDetails/itineraryAndPricing.do;jsessionid=000035QBq5WWFvJHfQ8gyYIdQFF:12hbiodf7?packageCode=VI07X005&date=ANY&selectedCurrencyCode=&promoType=&hasSenior=&hasMilitary=&state=
Hurricanes rarely make it all the way across Mexico to the Pacific. So the Hurricane season has little effect on Mexico cruises. There are also shorter (less then 7 days) cruises to Mexico like the short Bahamas crusies.
Another option if you live on the East Coast and want an east coast cruise is New England/Canada. Several cruise lines do them from New York and Boston. Here's one that Carnival does: http://www.carnivalcruiselines.com/Itinerary.aspx?subRegionCode=NN%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20&embkCode=NYC&itinCode=CA2&shipCode=VI&durDays=5
These cruises would be well out of the hurricane zone and are also fun. We did one of a Royal Caribbean ship a couple Falls ago and it was really nice.
Then there are always cruises in Europe, the Mediterranean and/or the Baltic. |

This is considered the off season down there so now is the best time to go on a cruise, My wife and I just returned from the Keys and it was amazing, we found deals on airfare hotel rooms and car rentals. Although I think cruises are overrated, if your taking the whole family i would suggest just gosomewhere like the Isle of Morada or Key Largo, and charter a fishing boat and take a fishing trip. Being its the off season the boat captains are offering deals on charters as well. But there all kinds of fun things for a family to do there, para sailing, snorkeling jet skiing, and for the adults you can sneak down to key west and do the Duval Crawl. Google some of the places Ive mentioned Im sure you will see something you like. |

Hurricane season is the best time to get a good deal on a cruise. .. if you had a bad experience before i can see why you would shy away from it but i would go for it... although it is hurricane season there still a good chance that there wont be a hurricane. Maybe take an Alaskan cruise (Ive heard they are pretty but im not fond of the cold) or maybe a european cruise. |

Hurricane season is June 1 through the end of November. Beginning in September, prices go down because the kids are back in school, so you can find some good deals then.
The ships have sophisticated weather equipment and are well-able to avoid storms. You say that you had to return to port early. We had the opposite happen. We got two free days at sea, sailing around waiting for the hurricane to clear out. We would not have know there was a hurricane anywhere near, although when we finally sailed into Ft Lauderdale, it was a bit rough!
The only real risk is that you may have some rough seas at times and you may miss some of the scheduled ports. But there's no danger. If you have to come back early or have to miss going to an alternate port, you'll get compensation. |

i've been there before. all you really need to do is keep checking the weather chanel for updates on current hurricanes up until the day you go on the cruise and if there is a hurricane out there that is heading toward mexico... i'd suggest not going.
i dont really have a good place for you to go vacationing in the summer.
i hate heat lol
but i'd try michigan or wisconsin or someplace up north because in the summer, it's normally not too hot and not too cold.
so try it :)
and hopefully you'll get to go on the cruise.
good luck. |

well until september, it's hurricane season. there really isn't anything you can do about that. perhaps you could try taking a cruise in an alternate location if you're worried about a hurricane ruining your plans. i think the odds are in your favor that the same thing won't happen to you a second time though.
if you can afford it, a european cruise would be fun i'm sure. how about alaska or somewhere in the pacific? does it have to be a cruise? maybe just get a vacation on a nice island at a nice resort.
my folks have a time share in the virgin islands. it's beautiful and you can ferry hop to the different islands during the day. you can go scuba diving, etc. everything you would get from a cruise except your not on a boat. just depends on your budget. |

I think you're taking more of a risk being on a germ infested cruise ship than with the hurricane. |
