Ask a lot of questions before hand. Make sure you not on part of the beach where you will be pestered by people trying to sell stuff all the time. |

Go with a friend. Read about where you will be going-take a guide book out of the library. Bring separates so you can pair a dressy blouse with a skirt for a nice evening look. First night and last night on a cruise are casual, bring some dresses for the other nights so you can eat in the nice restaurants. Bring two bathing suits. Lots of sun screen. The sun is very bad reflecting off of the ocean and you can get a burn even if you are not sunning yourself. Wear sunscreen every day. A bad burn will ruing the vacation. Bring sunglasses. |

The best site for questions and information for cruises is Cruise Critic. Try this link http://boards.cruisecritic.com/
It has forums for question about cruises from how a certain cabins to where to stay before and after a cruise
I've been on over 10 cruises and I still find that site helpful.
Have fun! Cruises are great! |

Anti sick pills - a couple of good books - soft soled shoes - 1 formal evening wear (for dinner at captain's table) - 2 rolls of your own toilet paper (not all ships have nice soft stuff) - ear plugs if you're near the engine - more money than you think you might need (drinks/excursions/casino/tips) - and a healthy appetite (food places on board are everywhere and 24/7).
*I also took a pair of binocs with me, glad I did for some of the views.
Primarily, bring an open mind as to what you might find on board - enjoy the trip - it's over sooner than you might like. |

Bring some nice clothes for the big dinners each night. Some people prefer to skip those for some reason, too formal. My wife and I like to eat at nice resteraunts and have great food, so that was one thing we didnt miss on a daily basis. Plus we made some great friends at dinner. Other than that, if you like to ride horses, you might want to bring something for that, there is almost always a sidetrip or two you can book to ride horses. |

My suggestion is BRING ME WITH! I've been on four cruises myself, and they have all been fantastic! You just can't beat the vacation for the price!
If you're going to the caribbean, bring your sunscreen for sure! Also, if it interests you, and you plan to do any snorkeling, buy an underwater disposable camera before you leave. They have these on the ship, but they are much more expensive there. Definitely take the time to read through the excursion offerings prior to going if you can, and make it a point to attend the briefings they all have the night before they arrive in port the following day, where they discuss all the different excursions.
Their entertainment on board is terrific! See the nightly shows when you can, and get involved in some of the fun contests they do throughout your cruise also. (warning - they do offer some VERY cheap prizes)
If you can't decide between steak or lobster at dinner - Ask for BOTH! It costs you nothing! Bring your camera to dinner on the last night, as they'll be serving baked alaska.
Have fun and remember - BRING ME NEXT TIME! |

Bring a good book to relax with on a deck chair. Bring your camera! Bring a comfy big tote you can carrry on your shoulder for shore excursions. If you are a coke/soft drink drinker consider bringing some cans of coke with you-they aren't free on the cruise and run about $2 each. Also if you like to drink-pack a bottle in your suitcase-(not your carry-on)of your fav alcohol for your room. Drinks average $6 each on the ship. Bring travel sickness med. Walmart sells a bottle of 100 pills for $5 and they work great. We only take them for the first 36 hours and are just fine.
Bring some antacids and /or alka seltzer. It's easy to overeat or mix different foods. Remember room service is free!If you feel like lazing in bed and watching a movie and think a nice roast beef sandwich and dessert would hit the spot-go for it! Have fun! |

Don't forget your formal wear and at least 2 good swimsuits. You'll want a credit card for onboard purchases and some cash for when you get to port. If you already have a camera I suggest buying a disposable underwater camera for those great beach/ocean/pool shots. You'll want to pack extra clothes because for some reason, you end up changed at least 2x a day on a cruise ship. You should take something for motion sickness (just in case) since you're new to the experience. Find out if the ship has laundry facilities and if so, take a mini-bottle of laundry detergent as it will be cheaper than buying on-board.
Most of all take an open-mind and a sense of adventure - you'll have a FABULOUS time :) |

a good book, fancy clothes for the formal dinners, lots of sunblock. if you get motion sick, think about something to combat that. The 2 crusies i have been on they have handed it out when there are rough seas, but i don't know if everyone does that. extra batteries for the camera, anything you can't live without. |

Take as much money as you can. Don't waste your time in the casino. Go ashore, but have a plan about what you want to do when you're ashore. Don't follow the crowd. They will just be wasting their money on stupid souvenirs. Read up on the places you'll be visiting before you go. Get to know people on deck-around the pool and in the night clubs and bars on ship. Get a group together to go ashore with. |

Sun screen, shades and a hat are must have items.
Make 2 photo copies of your passport!!! Leave one at home with a family member or friend and take the other one with you, but keep it in a different place than your passport. This way if you loose your passport, getting a new one will be much quicker.
Depending on what cruise line you are using to what other items you will need. If you are on NCL doing the freestyle fancy dress is optional. However with all of the other lines you will need 1 fancy dress (cocktail) and one nice dress. Tip make sure you can wear the same shoes with both.
If you are by any chance on Celebrity, take lots of nice casual wear. No jeans after 5pm.
Items people normally forget... mini first aid kit. Aspirin are not cheap on the ship.
Batteries for your camera or the charger. They do sell batteries, but again for a cost and if you forget your charger... just sit on the upper deck and watch the others take pictures. When you see someone that has a camera like yours... fess up that you had a blond moment and forgot yours. Ya you guessed it that was experience talking.
Take a small purse or fanny pack. On the ship you won't need cash, but a place to put your sign & sale card.
Good new is that anything you do forget either the ship will have or you can pick up at your first port of call.
Have fun! |
