At 17 you won't be able to drink on the ship. RCI and Celebrity let guests 18+ on European cruises drink if their parents agree, but not 17 year olds. The other major US lines are all 21+.

In Europe there are drinking ages, just lower than in the US.
Laws on ships depends on the sovereignty of the ship; if the ship Italian, Italian laws apply, if French, French laws, if American, American laws. That's regardless of where the ship (or the airplane, as well) are during its voyage.

If you are on a Thomson Cruise the legal drinking age is 18.
If you are on a Costa cruise, their policy is "Drinking age is 21 for any vessel leaving from a United States port. The drinking age is 18 from any vessel leaving from a non-United States port". MSC allows 18 year olds to buy alcohol.
I believe that all the other cruise lines have the 21 year old rule except for NCL who allow 18 year olds to have wine or beer, as long as the teenager has a waiver from their parents.

You should read something about european geografi and history if youre going there my american friend (only americans is stupid enough to think of europe as one single country, he? *Irony*). What you call Europe is 40 different countries and every one have theyre own rules as drinking and bying liquer so its really depends on where youre going. As I said rules change from country to country but tend to vary from 18 (mainly in reasturants and pubs) to 21 (for bying liquer in stores) so if youre lower than 18 you should read rules carefully.

With that said most cruise lines have theyre own rules and in most cages drinking ages tends to be 21 (at least for the big seven) and thats the same regardles of where youre cruising. Check it out on your cruise lines home page under drinking ages. Also remember that most CL want aloud liquer not byed abord, theyre will store it untill disembarkion.

So my suggestion is to check out the rules (through the ambassy or this page) for Spain, France and italy and your cruise line. Oh and drinking rules are decided by the individual countryes no the European Union. Johan

?
I just read this as I am going on my first cruise soon. It depends on the cruise line.

To drink on the ship to have to be at least 21. Doesn't matter what the laws of the country you are visiting require.

Time travler
The drinking age is 21 no matter what ship your going on. Now if you want to drink at your age, go to Mexico. Down there they don't care what age you are, but they don't have any cruise ships either.
