I've been thinking about planning a cruise.? |
And I believe I want to see Australia. I've already looked at Priceline and Expedia to compare prices, etc. But I want to know if anyone has gone on a cruise in the South Pacific, what were your ports of call, what did you enjoy, what cruise line did you use, overall how was your trip? - all that wonderful info that'll help me with planning my dream vacation. |

G'Day,
Princess will have 3 ships based in Australia / New Zealand during the 2008-9 season. The repositioning cruises, if you have the time, will provide you with the best per day pricing, but you'll also spend many days at sea as the ship makes its way DownUnder.
What would you like to see in Australia? Cities ? Wildlife ? Rainforests? Vineyards? Australia is a country as large as the US -- there are a lot of choices on what you can see and do.
Several different itineraries are available - for the most stunning scenery, try a cruise that includes Milford Sound in New Zealand.
If you enjoy clean air, pristine forests and outdoor activities, with a bit of history, chose a cruise that spends time in Tasmania.
If you really enjoy wine and would like to see the vineyards and wineries, choose a cruise that goes to Adelaide or Melbourne.
And if you're wanting to snorkel or dive in the Great Barrier Reef, be sure to chose a cruise that includes Cairns.
If you chose a cruise that departs and returns in Australia, remember you cross the international dateline to get there from the US. (If you depart on January 2, you'll arrive in Sydney on January 4.) Try to plan your trip so you spend a few days in the departure city before you begin the cruise -- otherwise you won't get to see any of the city except the airport and port.
Most of the South Pacific / Australasia cruises sell out quickly -- don't wait to book your cabin or you'll be disappointed.
Cheers! |

I have been on many cruises and you can check out individual experiences by recent travelers on www.cruisecritic.com it is a great resource but nothing replaces footwork a travel agent will do for you. They will do all paperwork for you and put in your room request, even dietary request. We always use the same agent and now she has it all on file, she just ships our documents to us filled out. They also work real hard to get you the best cabin of your choice. Have fun what ever you decide you will have a great time. |

Time travler

Last year I flew to Australia, then took a 29 day cruise back to California. We had 4 or 5 stops in New Zealand, stopped at the cook islands, Bora, Bora, Tahiti, Raratonga, Pepette,Hawaiian islands, just to name a few. This was a repositioning cruise which means when a ship leaves one area(Australia) to another area(headed for Alaska) depending on the season. These cruises happen only once a year, and are hard to get on as they are very popular and the prices are quite good for all that you get. We spent about $11,000 for the two of us including our flight for this cruise. It 's a cruise of a lifetime, for sure. |
