very very rare to SINK in a ship like that. You don't have to worry about that.
enjoy your cruise.

There is no boat that cannot sink. Period. However, the chances of a modern cruise ship sinking are very small, and there are plenty of lifeboats for everybody. Before ships leave port they hold safety drills in which every passenger goes to the muster station for lifeboats. There is a life jacket for every person in his or her cabin, but even if you might be somewhere else and an emergency should happen, you should know that there are lots and lots of lifejackets near every muster station. Quit watching Titanic and other disaster movies, and plan on having some real fun! Your brother deserves it, and so do you and the rest of your family.

The very first thing you do after boarding a cruise ship is an all hands warning drill. You are instructed on where to get your lifevest and where to go in the event of a warning alarm. There are MORE than enough powered life boats for everyone on board, and everyone's life vest has a beacon locator on it.
If its any consolation even if the vessel was fired on by a submarine it could still limp back to shore close enough that you could swim to land. These big boats take a looooong time to sink, partly because of their size, and partly because they have pumps that evacuate water fast enough to keep the boat afloat in all but that most absurd scenarios.
Honestly, you have more to worry about getting drunk and drowning in one of the hot tubs than you do about the boat sinking. |

Do you drive a car - or ride in one? That's much more dangerous than traveling on a cruise ship.

i'm almost 16 and i'm going on my 12th cruise next week. that thought always runs through my mind before i board, but once on the ship, i forget about it. the vacation always ends up fantastic. you have absolutely nothing to worry about! |

well after the titanic all ships have taken extra precautions... like now cruise ships have specially designed life boats filled with water and canned foods.. one of them fits 124 people... also right before they take off they have a meeting to talk about the drill.. just in case something happens everyone has stations to go too.. also most ships have extra solid whatever they use to make the ships...also it depends what ocean you're going to.. if it's the pacific nothing to worry... if it's the atlantic i undertsand why you're worried.. but trust me the captains of each ship have extra pre-cautions... and at night they turn on a searchlight to make sure they don't hit a glacier |

you have as much chance of drowning from a sinking ship as being killed in a car accident, just enjoy the pleasure of cruising, one your on board enjoying, you will have forgotten what all your concern was about |

Depending on your age, your doctor can give you something to help with your nerves. I had to do this for my first cruise. After you get on the cruise ship, and it gets on the open ocean, you will be fine. It is so smooth you will forget you are on the water. |

Don't worry. Your fear is sinking on a boat.
Just practice getting used to water and riding boats around shallow areas of water.
You don't HAVE to ruin your family's plans. Just get used to being around water.
There is a 1 in 500 chance that your boat will sink if it is made of poxy material. Just make sure it is a good boat and you will almost certainly NOT sink. |
