beth!
allot of people say balcony i disagree the room is pretty much just for sleeping just get an interior or cheap room because how much time do you really spend sitting in you cabin come on its a cruise. If you want a nice view just step out of your room to one of them balcony's use your money on a fun excursion or something. hope i helped :)

It is generally believed that the most stable part of the ship, is low and center.

Some people like to be at the forward part of the ship, some like to be at the center of the ship, some like to be down low, some like to be up high.

Myself, I prefer an aft cabin, on a high deck, when I am cruising as a guest.

Midship with a balcony room is the way to go. That way you can open the door to get fresh air and look outside and it will make you feel better. It's also nice to bring your breakfast or lunch in there and sit on the balcony if you don't want to eat with a lot of other people all the time. Also it is much less claustrophobic than an inside room, which is pitch black at night. I get seasick very, very easily, and the balcony room was great to be in. Take Dramamine and Bonine along with you when you go, and if you start to feel even a little queasy, take some (I took 1 of each), and that will be of great help. I was hardly sick at all when I went on my first cruise ever last September. The balcony room is more expensive, but well worth it. Have fun!

I get motion sick
I booked my cabin w/balcony (Celebrity Solstice) on the closest level to sea level to avoid the rocking motion
I still felt it at times but not as badly as I did when I was up on the top level few levels

snailysnal
you probably want to be on the first level thats a main level. down below you will end up walking a lot and up above there is more motion if that bothers you.

If you're going to spend any money at all, then don't go for any room without a decent view. My whole family was totally bummed when they saw the porthole that was our window. A ship at sea is absolutely fascinating and a rare scene. They didn't want to leave the deck just because of the beautiful and mezmerizing ocean. This is one thing that I will never go 'cheap' on again.

randall_nd
For the least 'motion of the ocean', midship is always desirable. Also avoid an aft cabin in the lower decks because of engine noise.

In the middle of the ship on a lower deck has the least movement. The higher you are and closer to the bow you'll feel lots more movement. The anchor is also louder up front usually.
