I am getting ready to go on a carnival cruise with some family. I found out that they will put a $500 hold on ?

my credit card. I don't have alot I can spend on it so a family member told me I could use theirs to put on my sail card and could pay them back. Will Carnival let me do this???

From the Carnival site:

"A hold will be placed on the credit card or checking account debit card at the beginning of the cruise as a deposit for an onboard purchases. This will reduce the amount of available credit on the credit card or restrict the availability of cash in the checking account. The hold will be released and actual charges will be billed at the end of the cruise.

The following dollar amounts, per guest, are used as a deposit when the Sail & Sign Account is opened:
2-4 day cruises: $100 deposit pp
5-8 day cruises: $200 deposit pp
9 + day cruises: $350 deposit pp

Deposit with U.S. Currency or Traveler's Checks
U.S. Currency and traveler's checks are accepted as a form of deposit to open a Sail & Sign Account at the start of the cruise. As the guest approaches the deposit limit, the Information Desk will notify the guest that additional money must be deposited. "

http://www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/Sail_And_Sign_On_Board_Account.aspx

We always use a cash deposit because the only card we have is our debit/check card and I don't want any holds placed on my checking account.

On our last cruise, my Mom said we could put her credit card on our sign-n-sail account and the Attendant said we could but it would have to be a different card than the one Mom used to open her sign-n-sail account.

I am not sure what you mean and would check youre info if i would you. But Ill try to answer your question.

As for the payment of the cruise is ok to let some one else pay for you as long as theyre give the right name on the cruise passenger. Carnival is interested in getting theyre money not how and by who it was paid. You or your friend simply pay the price for the cruise.

As for youre onboard account there is no charge or hold if you pay with a credit card. Theyre simply charge youre account some days after the cruise. But if youll pay cash its a different thing and youre forced to make a deposit so make sure youre choice youre credit card as the payment! (this is thru for cards like visa and mastercard. I am not sure for debet cards like Eurocard and American express but Ill think theyre ok to). Johan.

What if you put some cash down with the credit card at the beginning of the cruise. You don't HAVE to use a credit card. You could use a cash down payment instead of the credit card, but that will limit you. Once you reach the cash limit you applied, the sail & sign card you get will be stopped and you will have to go to the pursers office to apply more money towards the cabin charges.

The cruise line will want to run the card through their machine before you start the cruise so they know the card is valid for payment.

So you need to take the card with you which could be difficult for the card's owner if they aren't on the cruise!

yes you can do that --

I wouldn't play around with that...They will want to see your credit card on the ship and it will probably cause a big problem for you when it is in a different name. You better check this out with the cruise line and make sure they understand... I'd think about canceling the trip if you only have 500.00 limit to use on the ship.
If the family member is with you let them put all the charges on their credit card.
