Yes, church clothes will be absolutely fine for dinner. You cannot wear shorts or jeans or a tshirt for dinner though, unless you go to eat at the buffet instead of the main dining rooms.

Hope this helps and have fun!

Shorts are not suitable for going into the dinning room. Jeans are kind of frowned on too, but ok if they are neat and new looking. Better would be either slacks or like dockers. A shirt with a collar is also nice. If you do not want to dress this fancy, you have other dining options too, just not in the dinning rooms.

Sometimes they have "theme" nights. Check with your travel agent.
One night might be "formal," one night might be "costume," one night might be "casual." Depends on the cruise.

It also depends on your age. People aren't going to make a fuss if a 13-yr old doesn't dress up for formal night. Bring at least 1 nice outfit, just incase. You can just wear it for the dinners only, no one will notice. There are thousands of people on the ship. If you're in summer clothes all day, having just one dinner outfit won't matter. After dinner just run back to your room and change again! But I'm sure you can get away with jeans and a t-shirt some nights.

I was on a Carnival Cruise a few weeks ago. You will attend a elegant Captains Cocktail Party, which you are required to dress fancy for. For anything else, you can dress normally. Bring shorts and long-sleeves as the sea may be chilly.

Jeans, shorts and T shirts are really not the appropriate attire for dinner onboard a cruise ship unless you are just going to the buffet. If you are going to the main dining room, I would recommend slacks and a polo or button up shirt. You will feel out of place if you go to the dining room in shorts and a t shirt or even jeans because 99% of people follow the requested clothing for dinner. If you want to be comfortable in your t shirts and shorts, call room service or go to the buffet.

If you go to the dining room they really don't like shorts or beach wear but a pair of casual slacks and a shirt with a collar is usually fine. If you eat in the buffets you can be more casual.

"Church clothes" would probably get you by on Carnival [although with what people wear to church these days, that is a wide range of outfits!], but it wouldn't be truly "formal". That being said, Carnival doesn't really enforce their dress code.

For formal nights, men should wear a suit and tie [or tux!]. Women wear dressy cocktail type outfits or long dresses/skirts. A woman can take one pair of dressy black pants or a long black skirt and then have one or two dressy tops. The ship requests that you stay in your formal wear for the evening, but most passengers do not do so.

If you don't want to dress up at all, you can eat in the Lido dining room or the more casual eatery there [not all ships have this]. Or you can get room service.

Rebecca
You can wear jeans and t-shirts and other casual clothing to regular dinners. But on formal nights(like meet the captain night) you should wear church clothes and other fancy clothing.

you should be able to wear what you want during the day but the night time the people usually wear a little more fancny things . i dont mean dress to the 9s as they say but you cant wear shorts in the dinning rooms at night the other places that you can do that is the pizza area and such . i know on ncl you can wear what you like as far as a sun dress for ladies and dress pants for men.

There will be 1 or 2 formal nights on the cruise, on the other nights, business dress is the norm. (shirt with collar, dress shoes, slacks etc.)

mabel
I think ya should just wear jeans and shirts. it would be more comfortable.
