I am going on a royal caribbean cruise? |
I have a question. Does all the restaurants and everything close down. When you port for a day or can you stay on the ship and enjoy all the amenities. |

You are completely at liberty to spend all day on the ship if you wish. All the amenities are available except for the onboard shops and the casino which have to close when in port.
Enjoying the sun and the views depends on which port you are in. On one cruise we were on a ship that was docked downwind of a cement loading plant which made staying on the open deck an impossibility. Remember that the ships are so large that most have to dock on the fringe of the commercial port areas. |

All of the stores in the Royal Promenade are shut down while at port, due to international law. The Windjammer Cafe, buffet restaurant, will remain open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as the Jade Cafe, an Asian buffet, and the dining Rembrandt room for lunch and breakfast, and all three dining rooms open for dinner. |

I don't think so because it is quite irrelevant to close it down. Imagine if you want to eat something in the middle of the night and all the restaurants are closed. Its really frustrating. |

Everything will be still open while the ship is in port except for the Casino and the shops. Casinos are only allowed to be open when the ship is outside the 3 mile zone - due to gambling regulations. Since the shops sell duty free items, also they are only open when at sea.
So you can stay onboard and enjoy all the amenities other than Casino and Shops. |

The restaurants are still open when the ship is in port. The casino does not operate while the ship is in port though. |

Restaurants close after the last reserving. However in the cafeteria, you can go for food until after midnite. Cabin service is open 24 hours a day.
We have taken 6 cruises with Princess two or 3 with companies and found out Princess to be the best. Stay away from those so called alternative cruising, they stink ! - Normally on a 7 day cruise you have 2 gala nights where a tux and long or cocktail dress is necessary.
We take the first reserved seating so that we can attend the theatre show and then listen to the music thruout the ship or go dancing.-
Sometime after midnite we go to the cafeteria for coffee and pastries and have a talk with whomever we have met in the ship. When ship docks, we take a city tour or a walking tour of the island. Any other tour is a waste of money as we have found out. At noon we come back to the ship for lunch and we take off on our own or sometimes we eat in town. Remember those island are small and it does not take 8 hours of touring. There a lot of things to do aboard ship. And there are a lot of things that the ship personnel put on during the day for passengers.
Art shows, movies, gym, Cigar shop for us who smoke cigars, aerobics for the ladies, ping-pong, shuffle boards, computers Etc. if this your first cruise believe me, it will not be your last.- Have a good time, enjoy,
learn and make friends. We ask for table seating 6. Several friends that we made, have taken cruises with us later. - Bon Voyage |

Several reviews of most every cruise ship and every port of call. I would not want to cruise all the way to..say belize and not get off the ship. Most if not all ports of call are very secure, some even have armed police to protect the tourist |

All the resturants stay open, and the dining halls are open...the only thing that really closes is the casino....which sucks if you ask me. |

No, the majority of all the restaurants are still open. the buffet is always open. and all the activities are still going, about 30% of people dont get off the boat. the ship never closes. i actually enjoy back on the boat early or not getting off the boat at all because its very quiet and less crowed! relaxing. |

When a cruise ship is in a port of call, most everything operates as though it's at sea. In fact, some people never leave the ship on an entire cruise. But the casinos have to shut down when the ship is in any port, because they can only operate in international waters.
When a ship returns to its home port, everything gets shut down for a few hours while they do the passenger turnaround. But, they're usually back up and operating shortly after they start letting new passengers on board. |
