I am going on my first cruise in 7 days! I was wondering if 1,000 spending money would be enough for 2 people.?

We are going on a 7 night carnival cruise on the Valor.

First of all congrats! I am jealous lol they are SOOO fun! Second, my bf and I took a 7 day Carnival cruise and only took $800 with the intentions of coming back home with a couple hundred and we ended up charging an additional $250 on his credit card. We didn't gamble and we only went on two excursions. We are not heavy drinkers and didn't think we would drink but maybe one day but we ended up drinking almost every day (hey, why not, you're on vacation!!). So I would take $100 or $200 more just incase, if not you could always charge some of it. I do want to disagree with some of the comments. While you do charge everything to your sail and sign account during the cruise, you can pay for it all in cash at the front desk if you want to. We did this multiple times so we didn't have to worry about how much we were spending (we didn't want to charge a whole lot especially because the cruise was charged!!).
You are going to have an amazing time, and although during the year we are very frugal and count pennies, this was our one time we didn't count pennies so much. Keep in mind that life is short and you are on vacation!! Don't be too hard on yourself either. I wish someone would have told me that because my bf kept reminding me "You're on vacation". Hope you have a great time and let me know how you like it!!

My husband and I usually bring $1000 spending money and end up coming back with a couple hundred. We do a lot of shopping and tip pretty well when we take taxis anywhere.

That should be fine. Just watch what you are spending and don't be afraid to check your ship board account balance a few times to see where you stand. You can check your balance at the Desk and sometimes you can check it from the TV in your room. Again you should be fine! Enjoy and have fun!

I'd take more $ if I were you
$1,000 per person for alcohol, tips, land ventures, shopping, the casinos
better to have more $ on hand than you need

heck, I spent
$300 for 2 land adventures (rain forest and snorkeling)
$200 for casino fun
$500 for jewelry in San Juan and St Maarten
$200 in restaurants in San Juan and St Maarten
$400 for hotel in Fort Lauderdale day before cruise and day after cruise
$20 for a pizza night before cruise
$100 for a rental car

not too sure total amount on taxis. etc and cruise tips for my 9 day cruise

It would depend upon how much you plan to gamble in the casino.and how much shopping you want to do. Unless you plan to do a lot of either of those, it would be more than enough because you can't spend cash on the ship other than in the casino. You can use cash to pay your bill on the last day so it isn't on your credit card, but it is easier just to leave the money home and use it to pay the credit card bill.

ShiVi
It's more than enough.

$1000 is more than enough, Cruise lines allow you to use cash instead of your credit card with their sign and sail cards, the minimum varies depending on the cruise line. this is a good site for information

They don't want to take cash on the ship.........you must have a credit card. They take your credit card and set up an account for you...You just sign for everything and at the end of the trip they charge everything you signed to your credit card.... But you must have cash for tipping everyone at the end of the trip so make sure you have enough for that.
$300 - 400 should cover everything outside of the credit card charges.

It depends on what you plan on doing. If your excursions are already paid for (credit card) then it should be plenty of money. But if that money is going to pay excursions, extras on the cruise and you want to buy souvenirs from every port and you have expensive tastes, then it probably won't.

Best thing to do is to set a budget for each day and say that you each get like $75 per day to do what you want. If you don't use it one day carry it over to the next day. That way you should have plenty of money.

Good luck and have fun!
