Depending on where you live, taking a 3-4 day cruise would be fun! There are cruises from NY to Canada, from Miami to the Caribbean, Seattle to Alaska, or even CA to Seattle!

If you take a cruise in the off season (after labor day, but not during any holidays), you will get the cheapest prices. You can go from Tampa to Mexico for about $200pp (2 people in 1 cabin). Carnival will probably be the cheapest (Norwegian & Royal Caribban as 2nd's).

Depending where you live...Costco, Auto Club- they both have hot deals...and you can make it a short cruise. How sweet. I turned 50 this year! And a cruise is a great gift...also look online, I hear Princess is a nice cruise line and sometimes has specials for last minute or close to last minute bookings. Good luck! She will love this gift!

Expedia is having a cruise sale right now, plus if you register and set cruises as your favorite vacation they will notify you of great deals all the time.

I suggest you go to their site www.expedia.com first or you can always visit the Cruise sites directly: carnival.com, hollandamerica.com, celebritycruise.com are some of the lines you can take a look at.

Carnival and NCL are going to be the cheapest lines. All lines are cheap to the Caribbean in September due to Hurrican season. They are very good at avoiding the hurricane and some people only travel in Sept just to get the cheap rate.
