I am planning a cruise to Italy and was wondering if I should purchase the travel insurance? |
I would rather not. I plan on going no matter what. Does the insurance cover if the trip is canceled because of acts of war? |

Absolutely buy the travel protection. It is only a small amount to pay compared to what expenses you could incur. The travel protection is most important for the things you don't consider. For example, you say you plan to go no matter what. But, what if you end up getting sick and don't feel like going (if you do go the ship can put you in quarantine the whole time if they find out you are sick) Wouldn't it really upset you if you lost everything you paid on the cruise because you didn't put a few hundred dollars into the insurance? If you go to the doctor and get an excuse, it would be covered.
Let's say you miss your cruise because the airline was delayed. Was it your fault? Did you plan to miss the cruise? No, but if you had travel protection it would cover you. What if it was something as simple as losing your camera, or perhaps a whole bag, the insurance would cover that.
But on a more serious note, consider the main reason to cover yourself for a cruise and the main reason I always buy travel protection when cruising. On a cruise you are tight corridors with thousands of people, young and old, many of whom could be ill. You are eating lots of food and trying new things, maybe doing excursions in the water, etc. What if you would get sick. Maybe food poising, would you want to pay the doctor onboard to care for you, not really. But let's say it is more serious and you can't get the attention that you need onboard. That means you would need to be airlifted. Do you know how much it costs just to be airlifted off the boat, around $25,000. I know someone personally that had to be airlifted off the boat and taken to a hospital and it was covered by the insurance. It is a possibility on a cruise that something could happen, so it is a good idea to have the protection.
There is just tons of things the insurance covers, things you may or may not think about, but are still very important. I have never cruised (or traveled) without trip protection.
You may consider talking with your travel agent about the travel protection. I'm assuming you are looking at the insurance off erred by the cruise line, but there are more than likely less expensive options for you that you may consider, that are just as good, if not better.
I hope this helps! |

Especially in Summer alot of pick pockets around and their flight always cancelled, that's what happened to me. Luckily i bought the insurance able to cover back the loses. |

We have done more than a dozen cruises and we usually only buy insurance when we are leaving from a port outside the US. I generally use Travelux; the web site is below. I have also included a web site where you can shop for travel insurance. These insurance brokers generally cover everything from missed flight or ship connections to medical problems, to terriorism.
Last year we went on a Mediterranian cruise out of Barcelona, Spain to Italy (3 stops), Greece (3 stops), Nice/Monaco, and Turkey. We purchased insurance (not through the cruise line) because there were several points where we could miss a flight, train, or ship and/or lose luggage.
We recently went on a cruise to the Baltic out of Dover, England and we bought travel insurance and it paid off. The cruise was forced to come back to a port other than Dover because of bad weather and I ended up filing a claim for missed train connections.
The insurance I bought covered the flight, trains and cruise for one price.
We bought the insurance because we had several points in our itinerary where there was a chance |

The insurance cost is nothing compared to a ruined vacation due to illness or injury once you get where you ae going. We never travel with out it |

As a general rule, depending on if you plan on taking any valuables or not, it is adviseable. It isn't mandatory but a good idea. And of course, some cruise lines may have their rules and regulations regarding Travel Insurance. Kindly either call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, or reach me through Yahoo Messenger, and I can get more specific info. |
