I have been on many cruises so I'll tell you exactly how it works.
You book a cruise and at that time you select a cabin. That cabin is your hotel room for the duration of the cruise. The cabin has beds, a bathroom, TV, safe, chairs or seats, a closet and other space for your things, and towels and wash clothes provided.
All cabins are sold based on "double occupancy". That means that two people must be booked into the cabin; if you want to go alone you pay essentially a double fare. So you need at least two people to go but not a group. You also have to be at least 21 years old to go without an adult, except on Carnival where you must be at least 25.
The price of your cruise (for each person) includes your cabin (you will have a cabin steward who will clean it TWICE a day ... providing fresh towels, ice, and whatever else you need); it includes all of the food you could want to eat, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and free room service; it allows you free use of all of the facilities on the ship (with a few exception like you have to pay to bowl on the NCL Gem); you can use the gym, pools hot tubs, disco, shows, all free.
When the ship gets to ports you have two options. Book and pay for a tour or activity that the ship sponsors, like to the beach, or to sightsee the city, OR, just go on your own. You can get off and on the ship as much as you want as long as you are back on the ship at least 30 minutes before it's time to depart that port.
Most times cruise ship stay in a port for the day only, arriving at about 7 to 8:00 AM and departing between 5 and about 7:00 PM. So you have a full day to do whatever and they will tell you each day exactly what time to be back on ship.
Finding toilets can sometimes be a problem but usually is not. If you go on a city tour, or even to a beach there are usually toilet facilities (in Europe they call them "wash room" or "water closets" and you look for a sign that has "WC" on it. |

Grow up man! Basicily this is a journey by boat. Youll have your own cabin and eat at a reasturant. You can go off in port of calls either by organized tours (that bring you back to your ship) or by your own. Then you have to be back no later then 30 mnutes before the ship leave. "Normal" times in port are from 10.00 or so to 18.00 or so so say around six seven hours in each port. The ship will normaly travel at night and be in port at day. And yes the crew sleeps in theyre own cabins on the ship. And yes, there is toiliets on board the ship but if youll go off youll have to find youre own. Johan |

they give you a time you have to be back to the ship by....during the day, you can come and go as you please....you just have to be back on time....if you are not back on time, it is your responsibility to find transportation to get to the next port, so you won't miss the rest of your cruise.....you would probably want to fly to the next port, and it will be your own money....you can go on shore excursions, and they will make sure you are back to the ship on time....you can either walk to the beach, take a shore excursion there, or get a taxi....you probably should just wear your swimsuit under your clothes although you probably could change ina bathroom........you sleep on the cruise ship the whole time during your cruise....it is like a floating hotel....there are toilets on all cruise ships......like i said, it is a floating hotel, except it is more like a floating resort...they have public restrooms and there is a bathroom in you stateroom |

Think of a cruise ship as a floating city. It has hotel rooms (staterooms), clubs, restaurants, show halls, shopping, pools, fitness centers and much more.
You book a cruise, the cruise is the main purpose of the trip. Ports of call are added to give people a chance to get off the ship and explore different places. When you get off the ship you can go on your own or a group. But know that you need to be back on board 30 minutes before the ship is to depart. They will tell you at each port what that time is..
If you are not back by the time the ship leaves, you are responsible to get to the next port at your own expense. Ships keep very tight schedules.
Some cruises do offer you a land tour for a number of days. Alaska is one that I know of. If you decide to go on the land tour, the places you stay and some where you eat are arranged by the tour group. In that case you would take a small suit case with what you need.
Other than that you are back on board every night, when the ship sails to the next port of call. |
