I have a few questions about Carnival Cruise Line... (:? |
You don't have too attend the formal nights on board Carnival, right?
And, I remember on a previous cruise, there were restaurants everynight you had (guys) to have at least a jacket on. Is this the same on board the Carnival Conquest? I'm trying to save money, and I don't want to buy a $300 suit, that I am only going to wear on the cruise.
And is all the food the same? Like, I still want to be able to eat Lobster, and elegant foods, and have all the same desserts(:
So, thanks in advance! |

You don't HAVE to, but you definately should!! Lobster and steak is usually only served in the formal dining room, not the buffet. The buffet is good for lunch but dinner I would definately suggest the dining room! That's part of the experience! You can get a suit at the Goodwill or Salvation Army for next to nothing! We got a Liz Claiborne, almost brand new for $3!
But def go to the dining room! They pamper you, it's a several course meal and you don't get a bill at the end of dinner! |

You aren't required to attend any dinners. You can always eat at the buffet.
Also, jackets aren't required for guys, but on formal/elegant night they're recommended. The only things never allowed in the dining room are shorts, tank tops/sleeveless shirts, flip-flops, bathing suits, or hats. In addition to the previous mentioned, the following also aren't allowed on formal nights: t-shirts, jeans.
Here's Carnival's dress code, so you can read what exactly is permitted and not:

To answer your other question, the food changes each night. Lobster is only available one of the formal nights. There are also a number of alternate dishes that remain the same each night, basic things like steak, chicken, salmon, etc. Desserts vary each night as well.
Also, the food in the dining room and the buffet can differ somewhat. For example, elegant foods like lobster and filet mignon are not available at the buffet. |

You don't have to attend...but you should. In the buffet, the food is obviously not going to be as excellent. Besides, dressing up is not that hard. On casual/smart casual nights, slacks and a nice shirt are acceptable. On formal night, dark pants, a dress shirt, and a tie will get you by. Plus, the cruise ships usually have a rental service for formal clothes. |

Formal Nights are one of the fun times.
Have you considered checking consignment shops for a nice jacket?
Or even Goodwill stores. |

No, Carnival is pretty lax about what they require you to wear in the dining room. Jackets aren't required, even on formal nights. But, I would at least wear a shirt and tie with some nice trousers. Sure, some guys get away with a polo shirt or whatever. But, I just think it's bad form to show up in the dining room on formal night and not be ... well ... formal.
And no, the food they serve in the buffet is not the same as the food they serve in the main dining room at any time, not just formal night. |

Apple and Bobby are right, to me a large part of the cruise is dressing up. I don't wear a suit ever! unless I'm at a funeral or on a cruise. but a decent shirt and tie and dress pants are enough.
Main thing have fun. |

You do not have to attend formal nights. And the general dining room does not require a jacket every night, just no beachwear. |

There was formal night every night on the Carnival Elation and you weren't required to go to any of them. You arent forced to dress up but they would like you to on meet the captin night but you wont be denied seating if your wearing jeans and a tee. At the formal dining rooms there is Lobster and Elegant foods and great desserts. Have Fun :) |

There are only 2 formal nights on the Conquest...if you're taking a 7 day cruise to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Mexico. You don't HAVE to go but you really should....I just took this cruise and there were some guys just wearing a polo shirt with dress slacks...others were dressed up in a nice sports coat etc...
If you dont go to the formal night you will have to eat in the buffet room which is decent but you wont find Lobster Tail w/ Jumbo shrimp haha.
On any of the other Casual days you can wear whatever as long as its not shorts and a swimsuit....ENJOY YOUR CRUISE!
PS Try the Chocolate Melting Cake....very yummy! |
