I have a question about tipping on a cruise ...... I just signed my family of 6 up on a Norwegian Cruise Line

If I read correctly they automatically will charge $10 per person per day for tipping .... which will total $420 at the end of the trip. I don't have a problem with that toal but .... Is this considered enough of a tip or do people normally tip more ? Do they cruise workers get these tips ? How much could one worker make at the end of the cruise ?

I've noticed each cruise is different when it comes to tipping. Some have it included, some have different rules on different voyages, some give you an envelope to place ticket or cash.

The Disney Mediterranean cruise I was on last week provided guidelines before the cruise and brochures/envelopes at the end of the cruise (I'm told the procedure for Disney's Mediterranean cruise was different than their Carribean Cruises). I sent to the talk with the some members at desk several times to ask different people, and they all gave me the same answer....I was not obligated to tip....it was just a recommendation.

I tipped some people more while others I just gave the recommended amount and placed the ticket or cash in the envelope. Disney recommended you personally give the envelopes to the individual before the last two days of the cruise as sometime it may be hard to track them down on the very last day.

Good Luck and have fun.

That is the recommended amount. You may always give more if you feel that the service was worthwhile. This is usually true of the dining room staff, and the room stewards. If you desire to give more, I would give cash to the individuals.

You can always tip more/less by going to the main desk and filling out a form. They will let you adjust it. However many people don't know this, you have to ask them.

-Also the bartenders get 18% gratutity added to every bar tab that you process in addition to the $10 fee per person per day.

-This is free style cruising. There is no formal dining rooms and assigned table everynight. You pick where you want to dine. Some resturants you pay for some are free. There is a line for TIP on the ones with a cover charge.

Hi. Im not to sure wtih the Norwegian Cruise Line but I use to work for P&O and they say that tipping is compulsary but when you get on board you can actually ask to have the tip removed or you can pay a lesser amount. I know that the staff on board did get the tips and generally they send the money back to their families overseas.

That is just a tipping minimum. If you really enjoy the service, you can tip more. I don't think you can tip any less. Now on Norwegian, I know that they do free seating dinners and you do not have the same waiters and waitresses for the whole cruise but I think they divide up what you pay for tips at the end so that every employee gets a tip. I'm not exactly sure how much each person makes at the end of the cruise off tips but it can't be very much considering the large mass of employees. The smaller the ship, the more each worker makes I guess. Many people tip the minimum amount considering the amount of money you spend on the trip in total. I know when we went, we gave the bar waitress at dinner a tip for being so helpful. But, It is really up to you.

Hope this helps!

NCL will automatically deduct your tips. We just got back from an NCL cruise to Alaska. Believe me, you won't want to tip anymore then that - service was HORRIBLE.
