I know people are going to be upset at this question but I heard that alcohol on cruises is pretty expensive ?

and adds up quick. My husband and I are NOT well off and were thinking for the night of our anniversary if we would be able to sneak in a bottle of alcohol/wine for us. How does Carnival Paradise check in your luggage? Is this possible? If not no drinking for us. :(
Additional Details
Ok, let me change. We could drink if we wanted to but we have that money saved for all the excursions we want to do. Geez, my life is short and I want to go on a cruise before I die.

Okay - tried to answer this once and got knocked off! Here we go again.

YES! You can sneak booze on board; put it in your suitcase. The worst that will happen is that it'll be taken or you will be charged a corking fee (which used to be $10 per bottle, and that still makes it cheaper than buying a bottle onboard). You cannot buy booze in the gift shop and take it to your cabin. Carnival stores it and delivers it the night before you depart so that you will pack it to take home.

Enjoy your cruise! (And I do the same thing and save money for the excursions!!)

I know many people that have taken cruises and taken a lot of bottles on board with them to save money. Drinks on the ships are like $10 sometimes. Buy a bunch of smaller bottles instead of the huge bottles and put them between your clothes and you're set.

The worst thing they will do is take them from you, they won't throw you in jail.....go for it.

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
Your question is not upsetting to us who cruise a lot, its right on the mark. Drinks on cruise ships are expensive and there is a 15 percent gratuity added to every drink order which make the total add up even higher. But there are some things that you can do.

First, Carnival will let you bring on board a bottle or two of wine; actually one per person age 21 or older. Here's what's on their web site.

" Bringing Alcohol On Board - Embarkation

Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages onboard. However, guests 21 years of age and older only may bring one bottle (750ml) of wine or champagne, per person, on board only during embarkation at the beginning of the cruise. A $10 corkage fee per bottle will be charged should you wish to consume this wine in the main dining room; $14 corkage fee per bottle in the Supper Club. Guests may bring a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages. All prohibited alcohol, additional quantities of wine/champagne or excessive quantities of non-alcoholic beverages will be confiscated and discarded without compensation."

Then the other thing you can do is go to carnival's web site and order a bottle of wine and have it delivered to your cabin. I do that all of the time. Its more expensive than bringing your own but then you have it in your cabin and can drink it whenever you want. You can order wine for your cruise at this site: http://www.carnivalcruiselines.com/BonVoyage/Default.aspx?cat=Wine+Cellar

All of the cruise lines say that they check your luggage and they all do put your bags through a scanner just like the airports use. BUT, many time people do carry their own alcoholic beverages. The worse that can happen if they discover it is they confiscate it. NEVER try to take alcohol on board in your carry-on bags. If you decide to take alcohol pack it in your checked luggage. I use a couple flasks and pack them with my toiletries. You can also take some miniatures and pack them in with toiletries, or inside shoes so they do not break.

Wow look at all these losers hating. "Poor Asssss"... really? do you feel better after posting that? obviously you are a little kid who is probably failing out of school and you will be poor. I hate stupid people.
But yea anyway i hope you can get the alcohol on board for cheap. Good luck

Yes, you could smuggle booze on board. a bottle of Champange you could put in bubble wrap, then in a box and in your checked luggage as long as you surrounded it with clothes. OR we carried it on in our carryon in 07. no big deal.

Just tell them it is alcohol free champange. Sparkling cider.

mimi
don't let anyone put you down if you are worried about not having enough money for wine then do what I did and put it in a mouth wash bottle but I pack diet pepsi in my suitcase and nothing was said .so try taking a bottle of wine on board what can they do to you but take it away.It not like you are smuggling illegal drugs like dope on board. But I did get by with putting my wine in a scope bottle and it was great to have when my husband and I celebrated. And these same people that call you cheap will be paying for there drinking and all on board for months and all you will have is great memories not bills

Naanie
I worked on a cruise ship for 5 years, and although I have been on a lot of excursions - some are really over rated.

Do a bit of research on the ports of call, for some you may be better off doing it yourself!

Where are you cruising? Med or Caribbean? Some places you really need to do the tour (like Rome, St Peterburg) but some places in the Caribbean its cheaper just to get a taxi and make your own way.

And yes, you can sneak alcohol onboard in your suitcase.

summagrrl95
i think they don't check your luggage very good so i think there wont be a problem with you bringing alcohol on your cruise if they say something then say you didn't know and your sorry.

Hawi
my friend just got back from a cruise and they switched ot the wine and poured liquor (151) in the wine bottle and they mixed it with "free" fruit punch....and she put them mini bottles in a tampon box and made it on......just wrap your wine bottle in your cloths and take it on....they said that people on the ship had drink bills of like $800.00!!!!!!!! they said to always keep you bottle in the safe in your room.....because of house keeping........they had a really good time....and they came home with money in there pockets....so...have fun......live your life.....you only have one!!!! ;0)

Mary L
Yes, drinking on board ship is expensive! You're not really supposed to bring a bottle with you, but a lot of people do that anyway. (They roll it up in clothes and tuck it in the middle of their suitcases.) About a bottle, too -- my travel agent always sends a bottle of wine as a thank you. Some do and some don't, of course. And I hesitate to suggest to anybody to run up a credit card, but you can charge everything on board ship and pay it off later . . .

Connie L
You aren't suppose to, but people do it. Even going to the point of using empty toiletries (shampoo, mouthwash) to sneak it onboard. I would just take a bottle and stick in the luggage, worst they can do is take it from you.

but drinks with a 18 percent tip a mix drink was 10.70 cents
and yes you can sneak it on ships not very hard at all
they don't check he luggage that you check the carry on goes through a scanner like at the airport so i think best to put small bottles in you luggage
but those tabs do add up i wish i was going on a cruise again i went on the funking ncl majesty the oldest ship and small and it was ok
where r u going ? which ship ? read the reviews i found then 100 percent spot on

Boy, some people are giving bad/wrong advise here. Yes, there is a gift shop where you can buy bottles of booz, but they won't let you have it untill the end of the trip. Its just a way to buy booz tax free. You cant actually enjoy it on the ship.

I waited until we got to Cabo, then bought a 1 liter bottle of rum for $7. I stuffed it down my pants and walked right through the metal detector. Just bring a pair of baggy shorts.

i would wait til you are on the ship and purchase the bottle. they have a lil gift store and actually its a lot cheaper on the cruise than it is on land. then just take the bottle back to your room and enjoy. but hey alcohol doesn't have to be there to have fun. i would search online to see if they have anything you can do to surprise your man for cheap. or just be creative there are lots of fun things you could come up with..

If you are so broke that you can't afford a bottle of wine aboard the ship why the heck are you going?
