The later the date in October, the safer. Hurricane season ends at the end of the month. Even if you book a cruise and it happens that a major hurricane is headed to your selected route, they will change the ports your ship visits to avoid the storm; and passenger safety is their first concern. It can get rather choppy, and you may need seasick meds but the stabilizers on the ships do wonders at calming the ride.
I have cruised in October and had a great vacation.

We went on a cruise last October and had wonderful weather. We took an Eastern Caribbean cruise. The week after we went a Hurricane went through the same path as our cruise. We are going on another cruise next November. Its also a great time because all the kids are in school so you don't have a cruise with lots of children

Not to worry, cruise ships avoid bad weather. Carnival just introduced a new policy. If your cruise price goes down after you pay for it, you'll get a refund for the difference.

Yes, you deduced correctly,,, October is hurricane season. It actually starts Sept 1 for the carribean. My brother decided to get married in St Thomas in September (1996 if I remember correctly) Hurricane Marilyn came through & levelled the island. They've had him & his wife on tv shows Hardcopy,Stormstories, news one and a whole slew of other ones,, His part is "Hurricane Honeymoon" Hey I warned him.... But on a cruise, they will just change your port of call, or go to another island instead of heading for a hurricane... It's rare, but it happens. I wouldnt worry...

lo yeah hurricanes = nice cruises!! are you for real? 75 + mph winds at sea? thats just category 1 cat 5 is over 150-200 mph winds. that kind of wind will make 10-25 foot waves ... great for surfers not so great for big cruise ships

just because only 4 to 6 hurricanes make landfall there are 15 or more every year that we dont hear about that they track but stay out to sea. hurricane season runs from june to nov with the most action running from late aug to late oct.

to answer your question reember the old proverb... you get what you pay for. if the cruises were "just as nice" you would have to pay..."just as much"
