Passport/Passcards are not required until June 1, 2009.

So, yes you can cruise w/o a passport/passcard in March, 09.

If you end up selecting a sailing after June 1, 2009 and you don't plan to travel internationally by air, the Passcard is a new option available to land and sea travellers.

You can get details on the Passport Card at:
http://travel.state.gov/passport/ppt_card/ppt_card_3926.html

Notable...March is spring break for many departure ports and the cruises are full of families w/kids and the pricing is high season.

For better pricing and cabin options, you might want to consider sailing in Feb.

as of now, you stil do not need ppts to cruise. You will need birth certificates, and photo id though. check it out on line.

I think your question was can I book and go on a cruise before March and yes you can. As for the passport check with a travel agent ,you can get that pretty quick mine took 6 weeks I think with no rush. My suggestion is to call a travel agent and work with them this is the only way they are making money anymore is booking cruises and they will assist you and do all the paperwork for you and put in the room request etc. It is easier to just have the passport these days. Once your on board tho you will not need it just your room key.

You don't say which country you're in. If the UK, the problem is that cruises around the British Isles won't be available in our winter - so the answer to your question is "No". But if you apply for passports now, you should have them by spring.

This day you need passport to travel around, because they need to prove your ID.If the cruise not leave the country you may not need a passport but you need some kind of paper to prove your ID.Why do you apply one.

well i am going on a cruise to the bahamas this weekend and i am going without a passport. you can go to the cruiseline's website that you are planning to go on and check what documents you'll need. i am actually not required a passport although it would be easier if i had one. i am able to have a valid form of ID since I am over the age of 18 along with a residency/birth certificate. So it definitely depends on the cruise line.

If you're willing to fork over the money in extra fees, you can get a passport in two weeks. As for the cruise, although there wouldn't be any ports of call, you could probably go on a weekend cruise (aka cruise to nowhere) without a passport. That way you would experience the sailing part of cruises, but unfortunately, not the part about visiting another destination.

Where are you ???? It makes a lot of difference

A UK citizen can get a passport in less than 2 weeks. Other countries may take longer.

But without one you will not be allowed to board the cruise vessel.

All cruises traveling to foreign ports require valid passports.

Getting a passport is not all that long a process. You can get a U.S. passport within 60 days or so.

Brad
It takes about 4 weeks to get a passport. Go to the post office and ask them where you can apply. The cost is about $115 or close to that. It comes in the mail, so watch your mail. I doubt if you could even get on the ship without a passport, but you don't want to be in a foreign country and not be able to leave.

jellybeancounter
Yes, you can. If your cruise only goes to, let's say, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, you can. However, if you plan on going on a cruise that goes to other islands, you will need a passport. The passport agency does offer expedited passports for an extra fee (it's $60); those only take about 2 weeks.
