If I were to go a cruise and there was a emergency at home, how would I be contacted?

I want to go on a cruise for my honeymoon but im worried as I have a 5 year old son who would be with his dad but im worried about being so far away from him.
How would I be contacted and would I be able to fly home from the nearest port? I just need my mind to be put at ease before I start making plans.
Thankyou in advance xxx

There is satellite communications on every ship. Don't worry.

i would say buy good travel insurance, that would give you the option of getting off the ship at the next port and flying to your son.

chances are that things will be fine however.
also, get a good travel agent who specializes in cruising. Tell them of your concerns and have them advise you.
best wishes.

Don't you trust the father of your son?

You can receive phone calls in your cabin... they cost $9 a minute, but they are possible.

Others have answered your question about internet and ship to shore phone which can be quite expensive. Normally when a call comes into the ship, they need to leave a message on your cabin phone and then you need to call people back.

For internet, you can go online anytime (but a decent package if you are going to go on daily).

But, if you are concerned with an emergency situation - not just that the child doesn't want to be with Daddy - be sure to have travel protection which will assist you in getting home and also help cover expense to do so.

Your cruise documents will have all the numbers your friends and family would need to get in touch with you in the event of emergency. If you leave the country for a cruise -- or, for that matter, go anywhere for a honeymoon -- just leave a "consent to treat" for your child's caregiver. Hospitals, many doctors' offices, and many attorneys have those forms all ready to fill in the blanks and sign. Then -- go have a wonderful time!

Usually phones and internet work on most of the cruise (although they are a bit pricey) and wires can reach the cruise ship as well. Flights can be had from most ports although being last minute they would be a bit pricey.

What I am trying to say is, don't worry, you can stay in touch on a cruise ship.

When you get your cruise packet/tickets you will receive all the information about your cruise including a telephone number for emergency contact. Most cruises now do e-tickets, but they also will mail you a packet of information including a book of shore excursions.

Ships also have computers on board and most have a 'cafe' where for a small sum, you can use their PCs.

You can fly out of most ports at your own expense. If you take the ships insurance (which I strongly suggest) they will re-imburse some of your expenses if it is a true emergency.

If you do not trust your child's dad, maybe you need to take him or find another sitter. But he will probably be just fine, so go and have fun!
