Did you purchase the insurance? If not then cancelling this close to the sail date is full penalty. You will not get a refund. If you purchased the insurance, then the cruiseline will charge full penalties and then you can file it with the travel insurnace company. If you have insurance, read it carefully, it covers illness of immediate family members, not sure if a great aunt is covered in this. Usually that means, brothers, sisters, parents and grandparents, spouses and inlaws. |

Your penalty will be 100% of your fare. Travel cancellation insurance would not even kick in when the sick person is a distant relative like a great aunt. |

Unless you have purchased trip cancellation insurance, you will receive no refund.....
You should ALWAYS insure your trip because anything can happen - as you have found out the hard way.
Cruiselines outline their cancellation policy very clearly on all material including your documents. The policy is there for a reason. |

I would call Carnival and explain the situation to them. You would have better luck if you have bought insurance on the cruise. As others have said they might give you an "exchange" for cruising another time, But its more likely that you would not get any of your money back. Call them immediately though. |

You must have insurance to cancel the cruise. Otherwise, you will get no refund. If you can 2 days - or the day of the cruise, you will get 85% of your money back. |

You will not get any refund.
You start paying cancellation penalites with Carnival 75 days before your departure date. |

According to their website, unless you have cancellation insurance, you will receive no refund at all, nor will you get a credit for another cruise, if you cancel less than 7 days before the cruise. |

The standing rule is if you cancel anytime from the departure date up to 30 days beforehand, you lose all the money you've put into it because all deposits are non-refundable. In your case, you should try contacting Carnival Cruise Lines and explaining the situation -- they probably won't refund your money, but they may allow you to reschedule without any type of monetary penalty. |
