Oh dear, you've been watching Titanic again, right? Don't do that!

About your question: First, your chances of being in the water are very, very slim! And even if you were in the water, you would be wearing your life jacket, and that alone will keep you on top of the water surface. Your life jacket has a light on it that is automatically turned on if salt water touches it, and there is a whistle, too, so they would not miss seeing you even in the dark. (If you ever wear a life jacket in a lake or swimming pool, you will experience first hand how it is almost impossible to go even a few inches below the surface of the water -- a life jacket keeps you at the top whether you want to be there or not!) One of the excuses people used to justify rowing away from Titanic while it sunk was the fear of suction. However, testimony at the later investigations showed that there was no suction problem at all and that the expected suction simply did not occur. If worse came to worst and a ship was sinking, you would be in a life boat, with motors that are tested frequently, with experienced crew, with safety equipment, with lights, with a radio, with water to drink, with food if there is time to put it in the lifeboat, and with a whole lot of other passengers. You would also be wearing a life jacket, either the one from your cabin or one from the huge store of life jackets they keep in large storage cabinets right on deck near the lifeboats.

I really don't think you need to worry about this. Go have some fun!

There is no need to assume you would be caught in the water - ships take a long time to sink. You would be in your lifeboat with your life vest on. That is why they have lifeboat drills for both crew and passengers. Happy sailing.

Don't worry, cruise ships steer well clear of any problems. I think you are more liable to have your house roof fall in than end up in the sea!

There are more than enough lifeboats for everyone, there are roughly twice as many as needed in case the ship is listing and they can't lower on one side.

Lifeboats hold about 150 people. They are not comfortable and you are like sardines, but who cares if you are safe!

Sometimes the lifeboats are used to ferry you ashore if you can't dock. They don't cram in 150 then but it gives you a good idea how safe they are!

The suction that the ship creates is not very strong, and even a novice swimmer can break free. This was on myth busters.

They have a munster drill at the start of each cruise so you would know what to do in case of an evacuation at sea. There are more than enough life boats for EVERYONE on board
