If you're going on a cruise around the world how do you know you crossed from the Pacific to the Atlantic?

We just went around Cape Horn from the Pacific to the Atlantic about an hour ago (I'm on a South America Cruise) and the Captain told us the approximate time that we would get to the "Horn" and then came onand announced at the moment that we went from the Pacific to the ATlantic.

So the answer is the Captain will tell you EXACTLY when!!!!

If you cross through the Panama Canal, you will know it as soon as you are in the locks...
If you go around the cape at the bottom of South America, the rough seas will let you know where you are!

dumplingmuffin
the captain will give it out over the tannoy

Most round the world cruises go from east to west, so you would be crossing from the Atlantic to the Pacific. There are only two ways to do this.

One, you go through the Panama Canal. When you exit the last lock, you are then in the Pacific.

Two, you go around South America. The captain will announce when you have changed from one ocean to the other.

Get a GPS, or you have to go thru the canal.

The Captain, the Cruise Director, service staff, room attendant, waiters, and the daily newsletter will tell you. In addition, each of the above will alert you the day before and a few days before. You'll hear it from guests onboard, too. You'll know it when you pass through certain parts of the world.

Time travler
Not only does the captain let you know, but your daily cruise paper lets you know too. Then when you cross the equator, they make a party out of it by throwing people into the pool who have been covered with food items like spaghetti and sauce, and salad dressing. It's really wild, but everyone has a great time even the people who volunteer to get the food thrown over them. You also get a certificate too that says you crossed the equator. They also let you know when you cross the international date line too. The cruise ships cover it all.
