If you are in a cruise to the bahamas or another place in the caribbean and a hurricane is predicted?

what happens then? Do they go to another destination, or cancel the cruise?

It depends on the storm and where you are. The most important thing is the safety of the passengers and crew. If you are already at sea, ports of calls may be cancelled without another destination being substituted. If you are returning home. you may be diverted out to sea beyond the storm to wait it out or sent to a different port for disembarkation. This happened a few times in the past few years when all those storms hit Florida.

The serverity of the situation will dictate how the cruise lines will compensate you. If you miss a port of call, oh well. that happens. If the cruise is cancelled, of course you will be given the option of rebooking in the future. If you're diverted on your way home to a different port, you'll get transportation to your home port. Each cruise lines handles it differently.

Did you know that when the storms hit Miami, the cruise lines move their home offices to Wichita, Kansas?

Steven H
Well if the cruise already took off from port like Miami and you are the middle of the cruise and a hurricane is predicted to hit an area where the cruise is supposed to be than they will either divert and travel around the hurricane or if the cruise is almost over anyway or if the ship is in immediate danger they will cancel it and get to the home port or just do whatever makes the most sense safety wise. But the cruise will give you money back if you don't complete your whole Cruise.

If you are already on the cruise and the weather turns, they will just change direction. You will go to different ports that aren't in the line of the hurricane. It's always a risk with cruising, that's why you should try NOT to go in September, and October when the storms are at their worse.

Most of the time, they will change the itinerary. They may even change the port of departure, for example, Tampa to Fort Lauderdale.

Mr Soapy
It is left to the cruise lines discretion. They can either divert you another port of call, or if it is bad enough they can cancel all together. The biggest problem is if the storm threatens the embarkation port, and airports are closed etc. In any case, I would suggest purchasing independent travel insurance that covers you, so that even if you yourself choose to cancel due to unstable conditions you can do so with little or no penalty and can avoid that situation all together.
