If you have been on a cruise can you help me?

I am 21 and going on a cruise for the first time ever! It's a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas in March and I was just wondering what kind of clothes should I take? Do I need dressy dresses, or sundresses, do I need lightweight cotton clothes or dressy clothes? How do people usually dress for a cruise?

This answer is based on my experiences with Carnival cruises - I do not know much about other cruise lines.

You need casual clothes for the daytime - namely swimming suit and cover ups. (Tees, shorts, etc.)

For the evening, you need semi-formal wear (anything nicer than blue jeans) if you want to eat in the dining room. They will let you in in jeans, but are not too happy about it. If you choose not to eat tin the dining room, that's okay too - there is a bunch of different buffets you can hit up (but that would be a shame because the dining room food is delicious).

There are two formal nights, where you dress up as much as you like (I whipped out my old Prom dresses that my mother told me I'd never wear again, and I wasn't overdressed at all; my sister wore a sundress and a pant suit and she wasn't under-dressed). On these evenings, photographers are all around the ship to take professional photos of you in your formal wear.

The evening shows and dining area are a bit chilly, so pack a light over jacket or shawl to ward off the AC.

Mainly, just pick clothes you are comfortable in! Anything goes, really, so grab your favorites! Also, depending on the port you're leaving from, you might want something long-sleeved to wear until you reach Caribbean waters; the breeze can still be a little chilly in March, at least in Galveston (of course, I like it REALLY warm). Once you are in the Caribbean though, you swimming suit is your primary piece of clothing, so make sure it's one you like.

Also a space saving tip: When I went on my first cruise, I wasn't told that beach towels were provided by the cruise line and I packed some. Think of all the things I could have brought instead!

The cruise line has guidelines that they want you to follow. You can usually find them on the website. Most have formal evenings where you have to dress for the dining room, but keep in mind, if you'd like to just go casual, there's usually more than one place to have dinner and if you don't want the formal dining room, you can dress casual for the other option.

One thing I do is mix up outfits since women can get by with slacks and a dressy top. We always keep it simple and re-wear clothes by swapping the tops and bottoms.

Cabins are small and not with much space for clothes .. so the less you take the easier your time will be.

probably one night you could dress up for dinner, on a shorter cruise they might just say "smart casual" dress. Translation coats and ties for the guys and slacks/tops or dresses for the gals.

has great packing lists.
have a great time

Hi! I'm 19 and I was just on a cruise last year, and I have been to the Bahamas a few times so I think I'll be able to help you out!

Well first of all, you should bring at least 2 dressy outfits, because usually cruises have 1 to 2 formal nights. Also, at night almost everyone dresses up alittle more than they do during the day. During they day you can where the normal poolside clothes. I was usually in my bikini and coverup during the day, unless we were walking around the islands, then a cotton sundress or shorts and a cute tanktop was what i would wear. Don't overpack though! I went on a 7 day cruise and I took certain things I didnt need and not enough things i did need!

I cruised with carnival...
You will need at least one formal dressy outfit for the formal night. A couple nice outfits if you plan on attending dinner services in the evenings. You should bring bathing suits to lay in the sun or relax on the deck, bring comfortable summer clothes (shorts, tanks, whatever you feel like), also I recommend a jacket and pair of long pants in case you encounter rain and cold wind. There is usually a really windy day where it can get a bit chilly.
Hope I helped

Depends on what cruise line your sailing with. As far as dress code go, I personally like Carnival. I don't think they have a dress code. Carnival is go laid back and relaxed. Some people walked around with their robe on for the first half of the day.
Just take plenty of shorts and tank tops or cami's. Bring a couple of cute little dresses for the night scene. The one time your are really required to "dress" up is at the Captain's dinner and ball. A nice cocktail dress or gown will do. You don't have to go to the extreme though. It's not the prom. As far as island wear, wear shorts and a tank. Wear something cool because if you're going in March it is going to be hot. Drink plenty of water before getting off the ship. Well I hope this was useful. Be safe and have fun.

if you go into princesscruises.com click on their video, it shows you round the ship and you can see what people wear

i would bring at least 3 dresses for dinner. not prom kind but cute nice ones. during the day u can wear what ever, it all depends if ur gonna go swimming or work out in the gym. be comfortable. have fun:)

What 'elmodelo' said is correct. You should dress in light wear like jeans, slacks (these can also be worn at dinner with a nice shirt or blouse), shorts, Capri's or sun dresses for the day as well as for the beach. You should bring your swim wear since the majority of the tours include the beach or you will end up there. There is also pools on the ship.

There is always a formal night where you have to really dress up, trust me. It might be called the Captain's ball. Photos are taken so you have to plan for this. Bring a nice pair of strap shoes. It could be either black, silver or gold along with your gown. Some people can really dress up so you might feel out-of-place. Additionally, some restaurant usually do not allow men into the dining room without a tie.

I hope you enjoy your cruise!

bring as many as you can fit into your luggage, remember , airlines now charge per bag.

cookies say rawr :P
on a Cruise u need to dress in casual wear. usually shorts and t shirts is wat they wear. however, they do have things on the ship such as clubs and dances which require dressier clothes. and you also need a couple of dressy dresses for dinner on the ship.i've been on two cruises and that's the kind of stuff they usually wear. :]

This was the perfect Question for me because I just got back from a cruise on monday and guess what I went to the bahamas:

So for starters I'd pack light because in march (HOT) you'll be spending a lot of time by the pool, beach or jacuzzi.. I'm a pretty trendy well dressed guy and I over packed BiG time please don't make the same mistake.

sidenote: (ok so if you paid for a shuttlebus or something to the cruise get your money back they charge more then cabs..a cab is cheaper transportation to and from the airport)

Bring comfortable clothes and also bring dressy clothes for the night time for when you go to the shows at night or the restaurants they have on the ship.

When you get to the bahamas you can go the cheap route like I did and get off the ship and walk over to the right side of the island which is like 2 city blocks you'll see tourists shops it'll be right across from it pay $6 round trip per person to the hotel atlantis beach it's actually a public beach behind it so you have to walk a little the staff will point u in the right direction, you can jet-ski, parasail etc.. there or just enjoy the beach.

the other thing you can do is pay for the excursions before you get off the ship it'll be more expensive but a bit safer and guided tours.

if you have more questions just e-mail me

have fun GirL
