If you work on a cruise ship, do you get to use all the facilities and whatnot while you aren't on duty?

No.

My guess is no--they're probably disallowed doing that by company policy to make the rest of the cruisers more comfortable and leave space for them.

They all have very strict fraternization policies. If you are socializing with passengers when not on duty or hanging around them you will be fired. It's not so bad, because as others have indicated the crew all hangs out together. Besides work, you won't have much time or energy to do anything but eat and sleep.

The visiting performers on Cunard ships are allowed to use all of the crew and passenger facilities, with the sole exception of the passengers' dining rooms. Other people working on ships are not allowed in passenger areas when they are off duty. However, crew members have their own dining rooms, pub, internet facility, lounges, etc., and on a few ships even have their own pools and sundecks.

In the two cruises that I have taken, I have never seen a crew member in any of the facilities that was not working. The crew has their own area below decks. Mostly they seem to work, sleep and eat. Crew on a cruise ship is like work on most ships-it goes on all the time. In fact a question posed by a guest on one cruise asked the captain how the crew got home at night, since they were not seen.

Regards,
Dan
