Starting June 1st you will for all passengers but currently if the cruise leaves from and returns to the US then for kids you only need a birth certificate.

As of June 1, 2009, all land and sea travelers are required to have a valid passport to return to the US.

Your are not required to have a passport if you are doing a closed end cruise. that is one that returns to the same port that it left. This applies to Canada, Caribbean and Mexico.

All cruises require a passport because you've been in open waters. Anytime you've been outside the United States, you need a passport to return.
