I've been on both lines before. I would say Carnival attracts the younger crowd, with the partying and what not. I would say their about the same though.

Mayday
Quick Comparison
Price: Splendor
Ship: Mariner (hands down)
Activities: Mariner
Service: Equally good
Food: Splendor (barely)
Teen fun: Mariner: more to do, two teen lounges, and several other innovations

I have been on 4 ships that are in Mariner's class (exactly the same). They are excellent

For your age there is plenty to do and you will not want to leave!!

If you can get hold of a Berlitz Travel Book (from a library maybe) called "Ocean Cruising & Cruise Ships" it will give you full details of both ships and what they offer.

I have been on over 30 cruises and I can tell you that you will have a great time on either of those lines. Carnival is a little cheaper, but RC has a lot more to offer and would be enjoyed by a wider range of people. If you mom would like some help deciding, have her contact me through my website below. There is no charge for my services and I can be a lot of help and find you good rates.

I'm looking for a cruise, too, and after researching Carnival and RC, and reading reviews. Carnival is less expensive then RC. But, some Royal Caribbean ships have a few more 'highlights' then Carnival. Personally, I would suggest Carnival Splendor over Mariner Of The Seas ... Splendor sounds a little funner after reading about it, then Mariner Of The Seas.
