Im going on a cruise question about shore excursions?

I am going on a 4 night royal caribbean cruise. We are sailing to nassau, coco cay, and key west florida. I was debating on whether i should purchase shore excursions. Is it safe to get off the ship in nassau or coco cay without a shore excursion planned. Also what is there to do in nassau or key west if you dont have shore excursions planned.

Nassau is relatively safe if you stay on the beaten trail. You can easily and safely walk to the straw market and enjoy walking downtown. You may want an excursion if you are looking to scuba or snorkel. The people are very receptive to tourists and are kind.

Coco Cay is owned by Royal Caribbean and therefore the only people on the island with you are from the cruise boat itself. Its very safe and well managed.

Key West is a quaint town with tons of shops and a small tram for sightseers. You can purchase tram tickets on your own.

Perfectly good to go out on your own. Coco Cay is the private island of RCCL so you will not see much other people than your fellow passengers and crew. Key west is great to walk around, have a meal outside, enjoy the different feel.
Nassau, shopping, walking around, having a nice cool beer and relax.

Enjoy your cruise

Key West is a great city. There is a lot to do and there will be tour guides when you get off the ship if you change your mind and would like a tour of the area. They are safe to go with as they are the same ones that people in hotels use. The same is true of Nassau, but there really isn't much to see or do there. Coco Cay is the cruise line's own private island. Nobody will be there unless they are connected to Royal Carib. All of these ports are very safe to get off and just walk around.

you can purchase the excursions, you'll probably be let off the ship first because of timing and what not. however, for myself the wait wasn't very long, probably like an hour. also, for me it was cabo i was sailing to. it was perfectly safe there, and i'm pretty sure it is there too. although i might check the website for more info. checking the faq never hurts. http://www.royalcaribbean.com/gohome.do
