I've been on 3 cruises....2 Royal & Carnival the other.
Royal Carribean is the best out of those two by far!! Better food, better ports, better people, classy boat. We went on Voyager of the Seas....it was a fun and beautiful boat. The newer the boat, the better.

sparklee ,
I just took my first cruise to Royal Carribean and it was very nice. I don't know how much it was though because me and my mom went to it. Have fun! =)

I have gone on Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Now for me...I would only do Royal Caribbean or try another line. Carnival was a great party ship for the younger set and just those in the complete party scene...which as you know isn't me. lol. RCL was classy, and for the middle class I guess. There are still parties and all but no one seemed to just get crazy about like the other line. I am planning to take the kids and we are going Rcl all the way! Call me by the way!

It really depends.

Carnival is more of the younger and party all night, drink, and gamble type of atmosphere. People who like to dance the night away, and just get the whole cruise experience, because they are the basic cruise line, and are very cheap compared to others.

Norwegian cruise line has the famous freestyle cruising, and you eat when, where, and how casually dressed you want. This is so controversial depending on what ship and everything because they have had some problems with rude staff members.

Celebrity is a really nice cruise line, and win award after award, in alot of major categories. They have great deals and their service and food are the best. I would really say you go on Celebrity at least once.

Royal Caribbean, is the one that most people are going to tell you to go on because of everything they have to do. I would say that it is defnitely well worth the extra price and you have so much to do and experience. The rock climbing walls, in line skating, golf simulators, and the new flowriders, just theirs alot to do.

I would definitely avoid the older and more upscale cruise lines like Crystal, Cunard, Windstar, and Princess, Holland America, as those lines tend to have an older crowd, and they cost more, unless you are into that type of thing. They don't usually have alot of kids, and their service is more upscale.

I also didnt mention Costa, as well they are Italian based, and you get a wide range of people on those ships, so much so that everytime a public announcement is made it is spoken in like 10 different languages. It's just annoying. Their food isnt as good as other lines, but you can sometimes find a really great deal.

Your questions requires a long answer and then you will have to decide based on this information which is "better" for you.

If you have the money to spend for the very top and best cruise lines try Crystal, Radisson, Cunard, Windstar, and Silver Sea. These cruise lines are a cut above the others because they run smaller ships (about 500 to 700 passengers) and have a higher staff to passenger ratio so you get top of the line service. They also have more amenities included in the much higher price, like all veranda/balcony cabins, tubs and shower bathroom, larger cabins, daily free wine and/or champaign with meals, etc.

Prices for a 7 day cruise on these top of the line ships may start at $2500 to $3000 (vs about $700-800 on the next tier of ships.). These ships tend to have a more sophisticated and older crowd and more formal dining. So for two people you will spend $5 to $7 K for your cruise.

Most cruises are done by the next tier of cruise lines like Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Princess, Celebrity, Cunard, Holland America, and Disney.. Most of the ships for these lines are now 1500 to 2500 passenger ships. The ships are big but things are so well managed that you really don't feel crowded on them. Prices on these ship can be as low as $800 for a 7 day inside cabin and about $1200 for a balcony cabin. So on these ships for two you may spend $1,500 to $2 K for your cruise.

Carnival is the fun ship, has lower priced cruises, but their accommodations are not the best. Carnival is the party cruise line that most young folks and first time cruisers take (ages 20 to 35) who want to party, party, party. If that’s what you are looking for then Carnival is the one for you.

Disney has good ships but is primarily for kids, and families with kids. It does have adults only areas on ship, but the kids are still there on ship. They will have lots of kids’ activities on the ships, but they will still be all over the hallways, elevators and dining facilities.

If you are interested in things for kids, most cruise lines like RC, Norwegian, Princess, Carnival and Celebrity have programs and staffs for kids. Some ships even have specials areas for kids only.

Princess, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Celebrity, and Norwegian tend to have people who have cruised many times and are in the 40 and over age group; a more reserved crowd. All of these cruise lines may also have some kids but not many. That does not mean these cruises are dull, it just means that the passengers are more mature and reserved. You will find the 40+ crowd in the bars and disco and having as good a time as the youngsters, but you may not hear them across the room or deck.

Another important factor to consider is, cruises going to the Caribbean tend to have more young folks than those going to Alaska, Panama, the Mediterranean, the Baltic, or South America. People who go to the Caribbean are looking for fun things like beaches, jet skiing, snorkeling and scuba diving, para-sailing, and a lot of other activities related to water and beaches. On the other hand, people who go to Alaska, Panama, the Mediterranean, etc., are looking for cultural and historic activities. So you have to pick a cruise that is best for you based on what you want to do.

I love Carnival we go every year as a family vacation, Carnival is not a party ship, we have not seen any thing like that at all.
there are lots of activities and the food is wonderful, I recommend the dinning room every night!!
Living in Florida there are lots of port ot pick and they are all good, our first was a 4 day and it was not long enough!!!! warning cruises are addicting!!!!!

in the end look at all you want out of a cruise and what you want to do, they all have there differences
keep in mind the new things on Royal Caribbean like the rock wall is not on all there ships and has very long lines.
Princess, Celebrity, Norwegian cater to the older crowds, and are very nice at a little higher price.

Windjammers are a hoot. Nothing better than a tall ship.

Royal Caribbean, its in a higher class than Carnival. The ships are clean and well maintained, the food is great, the staff very friendly, and there is always something to do. Carnival is pretty cheap in price, but their ships are dated, the food is horrible and there are not a lot of activities onboard. People who recommend Carnival obviously haven't been on Royal Caribbean.

They're all about the same, but Carnival will offer more fun things aboard ship. Try this site for a cheap cruise deal. www.iBtraveling.com. I usually find something there. Just remember to restart your computer after you make a purchase with a credit card, no matter what site you make a purchase on.
