Your cabin is for sleeping and showering. Everything else happens up on deck. Cabins are usually small, but they are nice enough to sleep, shower and hold your luggage. They are like small hotel rooms. They have private bathrooms and beds, closets, and usually a desk/dresser. Usually small, but nice.

I have been on about 20 cruises on 4 different cruise lines and I can tell you that the cabins vary by cruise line, ship, and the type accommodations that you select. There are 4 basic types of cabins on ships;
- inside (no window),
- outside (a window or porthole),
- balcony/veranda, and
- suites and penthouse suites.
Then Royal Caribbean has some inside cabins on its Freedom and Voyager Class of ships that have a window overlooking an inside promenade mall.

The basic inside cabin (again varying by cruise line) will be between about 150 sq ft and 170 sq ft, about the size of a 9 by 12 ft home bedroom. Each cabin has a two beds which can be pushed together to made into a queen, a bathroom with a shower stall, a closet and vanity counter with some drawer space, a TV and telephone, a safe for valuables, a mini-refrigerator, and a life jacket for each passenger. Then some cabins have either an arm chair or a love seat. The love seat typically can be made into another bed for the cabin. There may be a small table about half the side of a regular coffee table and one or two very small end tables by the bed(s).

There are also some subcategories within each category of cabins with cabins on a higher deck, and/or a better location on ship (like midship), and/or that are slightly larger costing more. These other cabins are typically a little larger than the basic cabin; maybe 190 to 225 sq feet (depending upon the ship and cruise line). If the cabin is a balcony cabin a higher priced cabin will also typically have a slightly larger balcony also. And finally you have the full suites and they can be like one or two bedroom apartments with two bedrooms, a bathroom with a tub, a living room with a sofa and side seat, and a separate eating area. These could be like 800 to 1500 sq ft. So if you have the money you can really go first class.

Each cabin, regardless of ship, cruise line, or category has a room steward assigned to keep it clean. That means the steward makes the bed, vacuums, cleans the bathroom and provides fresh bath and face towels, and wash clothes twice a day. He/she turns down the bed at night and typically leaves a chocolate on the pillow. If you book a suite or penthouse some will come with concierge service which means they will provide fresh fruit and/or flowers each day and some other amenities like a bath robe for each person. Some high end cabins may come with butler service.

The last time i went on one which was Royal Carribean..Liberty of the seas boat............mine had a flat screen tv, 2 beds, a bathroom with a shower, closets, drawers

We sailed on the Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas and our room had a closet, a bathroom and small couch and coffee table and a queen size bed with two nightstands.
Plus, there was a small desk/makeup area and a flat-screen TV. We had an oceanview, which meant our window looked out at the water, which was cool!!!

The rooms aren't the biggest, but for two people, we had plenty of room to chill out and relax.....when we were actually in our room!

NOOOOO. REGULAR CABIN ARE REALLY SMALL. THE BATHROOM ARE MADE FOR DWARF. TRY TO CHOOSE OCEAN VIEW OR BALCONY. YOU WILL FEEL BETTER.

It depends on the size cabin you get. All cabins of course have beds and a bathroom. The smaller cabins will have a shower whereas the mini suites and up will have a tub. The smaller cabins will have a TV and phone and a small area to sit. The larger cabins will have a sofa and chairs and a balcony. I have cruised a lot and would not cruise without a balcony. It adds so much to the experience. It is great to sit out there at night as the ship cruises.

A cruise ship can fit up to thousands of people plus all the extra entertainment (casinos, pools, daycares, etc).
So people generally only spend the night really in the cabins and the rest of the time they're out and about. So the cabins are generally smaller so they can fit enough for all the passengers + crew+employees.
The rooms are about the size of a smaller kitchen with a small port window on one side. There's sometimes a bunk bed connected to the wall with a plain mattress w/ cover under. and a queen bed or two twin beds put together mattering on the amount of people staying in the room.
There are also a small closet, and cool paintings for decor. and a small tv connected to the wall.
Hope this helps!

We were on Royal Caribbeans Liberty of the Seas in a Balcony Stateroom.....the room was about 177 square feet with a balcony. The room was about 20 feet long by 9 feet wide and the balcony was about 10 X 6. These are guesses, I am not the best at sight measuring, sorry. There were 2 twin beds that converted into a queen....but it was a really big queen bed, almost a king and very comfortable. They had a flat screen tv 2 chairs or a couch to sit on. A very large closet with shelves and a small safe, lots of hangers, a desk/dresser with several drawers for stashing your clothes, a very large mirror for putting on makeup and primping. The bathroom was pretty small, but serviceable with a round shower, toilet, sink with a small countertop, storage shelves under the sink and a small medicine cabinet. The balcony had two outside type chairs with a small table. The closet had room to store your luggage on the floor. It is like a hotel/motel, you have a room attendant that keeps the room neat and clean, brings you fresh towels, makes up your bed, ties those really cool towel animals....! We were very comfortable in our room......we were only there to sleep and shower anyway, so it was more than enough. If you want to spend the money, you can get a larger room or a suite.

The least expensive, inside standard cabins on a mainstream cruise ship .

Standard inside cabins have floor areas ranging from 120 to 180 square meters.

The amenities that can be found inside a standard inside cabin are similar to that of a standard room of a hotel: a queen-sized bed or twin beds, a satellite TV set, air conditioning, a closet and some storage space for your clothes and personal items, a telephone, a hair dryer, and other items.

Standard inside cabins do not have windows or portholes, and the bathroom is small, usually having only a shower cubicle rather than a tub.

Smaller than most hotel rooms but include everything you need.

The toilets suck (literally) so don't flush while you're sitting down.

Most baths only have a shower. (The balconies on HAL are an exception).

If there are more than two in the cabin, there are "Pullman" style beds that the steward will open from the wall or ceiling each night.

Maid service twice a day. You get a turndown, a piece of candy, and often a towel animal every night. Regularly delivered ship newsletter and announcements. More toiletries than most hotels provide. Hair dryers.

Free room service although they expect a tip..

All have TV but fewer TV channels than a hotel and many are tailored to life on the ship. (If you're regularly watching TV shame on you!)

Balcony cabins generally have a view of the water and nothing else unless you're in port. That makes them a great place to sit in private and read or work on an "extended" sun tan.

And, oh yeah, life jackets. You'll never see those in a regular hotel!
