Internet Access on Cruise Ship?

Hi There! I am on a cruise right now, and the internet fees are killing me. They range from 40 cents to 75 cents per minute. Given my job requires 150 minutes per day, this is getting expensive. Are there cruise lines with unlimited internet for one price? In other words, I am looking for all-u-can-eat. Thank you in advance!!! NRO

The answer to your question is NO!!! They all charge about the same thing and its very expensive.

BUT, the best thing to do is just wait until you get to a port stop and look for an internet cafe. I have cruised all over the world and always found internet cafes within walking distance of the ship in just about every port. Fees in the land based cafes are generally about $5. to $7. an hour. The thing to do is ask your wait staff and/or your cabin steward where the internet is. They all know because they go use it when they can get off the ship. Another option is to ask a tour guide or some locals; they know.

You will also find that the land based internet cafes are generally much faster than on ship; ships' service can sometimes be slow because the ship is moving and its hard to keep a satellite connection.

no, not in my experience. It might be cheaper for you to get their packaged internet minutes. Also you might consider finding an internet cafe in the ports you are stopping in. (that might be cheaper than on the ship)
good luck

has great info.

I took a cruise while I was taking internet classes - I totally feel your pain. A couple of times I went to an internet cafe while we were in port and paid much much less. This might be an option for you.

I doubt many of them have an unlimited internet package as they have to pay for those satellite minutes and they aren't cheap.

If you cruise enough with one line, then the more you cruise the more free minutes you get until it's all free. I know Princess does this.

I am a travel agent.

I have never seen any unlimited internet packages, but several cruise lines do offer you packages where you can get reduced pricing for buying the minutes in bulk. Know how many minutes you'll likely need, and calculate which would be the best package.

Depending on the port, if you had a laptop and broadband card, then you may be able to pick up internet signals while in port as well.

As others mentioned, accessing the internet from some of the ports would be cheaper. I do most of my work online, and work at home. If I could get really great rates on the internet, I would live and work on a cruise ship! :)
