Inviting friend on cruise? |
Ok, we haven't even decided if we are going on a cruise for certain yet, but we are thinking about it for spring break.
I was wondering if it would be a good idea to invite a friend? I haven't asked my friend yet...
I proposed the idea to my mom, and she said it would be ok if the girl payed her part. I was expecting that, and wondering if it's polite to ask my friend about that?
Or, would it wiser to go without a friend? I haven't asked my dad yet, so I still have to see if he would allow it. What would be the bad and good things of having a friend? Additional Details my dad really likes family time...so would it be rude to him to invite someone? |

I don't know your dad but I think he would be happy to know that you have been so thoughtful and put his feelings into consideration. Talking to your dad before talking to your friend is a very good idea because even if your friend does pay her own way it still impacts your parents. Both of them. But having a friend along can add to a family vacation too and that could be lots of fun. When I was young I traveled with friends - it was a blast and we had plenty of time to do things with the adults but there were times when they wanted to just sit around and read and it was fun to have a friend along to play with.
Have a blast. Congratulations on being such a considerate daughter. Your parents have instilled some good values in you.

you could have a great time if you take a friend with you. I would talk to your dad about it and see what he thinks. I would talk to the friend about what is expected (meaning they pay the expenses of the trip, souvenirs, ect sot there are no surprizes.
best wishes

Ask your dad what he thinks. If you all go to dinner every night and do fun stuff together at all the ports, then he may go for it. It is never rude to ask another person to pay their own way. Its only fair. Just say ( to the person you would like to bring) My parents say that I can have a friend along if they pay their share. Make sure to take someone you like and respect and that will follow the rules your parents set. Having a whining, complaining troublemaker along is no fun! |

If your friend is willing to pay her own way, you would have a much better time then going by yourself, but if it were my daughter, i would tell her the same thing. it can get very expensive, when you start buying stuff and going on the excursions. But absolutely take someone |

Prices for cruises are almost always based on double occupancy. If you choose to cruise alone some cruise lines will have a "single supplement" they will add which is slightly less than the double occupancy price (they basically factor out the cost of food for the 2nd person) but not substantially less. Some cruise lines will just charge the 2 person rate anyway.
If you choose to ask your friend along, make sure it is understood that not only is s/he to pay his or her half of the price of the cruise but also any expenses s/he incurs while on the cruise. I have heard too many stories of friendships that have ended over unpaid charges that were made to the stateroom during the cruise. Make sure when you check in that the cruise ship takes each of your credit cards to keep your shipboard charges separate. |
