Officially, until June 2009, a raised seal birth certificate and a driving licence is fine. However many cruise lines now insist on passengers having a passport or a passport card. Contact the cruise line or your TA to confirm what the cruise line will accept as ID. |

You HAVE to have a passport. Your birth C won't do. All cruises that dock out of the US you MUST now have a passport.
I was just on a cruise in March and they made me have one. |

my husband and i just got back from our honeymoon.. a cruise into the caribbean, we used our original birth certificates and our drivers licences, i booked through AAA and they insisted i had a passport, but i contacted the cruiseline, caribbean princess and until june of 2009 your birth certificate and drivers license are fine, for any air travel though, you NEED a passport! |

For now, yes. However, if for any reason you needed to fly back to the US, you would need a passport.
Go to the State Department website for the most up-to-date info re travel documentation.

Since you put this in "cruise," I'm assuming you're referring to ID for a cruise.
It depends where your cruise is going. If a passport is not needed, then DL and certified copy of your birth certificate is all you need. |

As long as your cruise will have you return to the U.S. before June 1st, 2009, then you will be okay. After that date, passports or the new passport card will be required.
However, you should get a passport anyway. If something happens while you are on the cruise and are forced to fly home, you could have problems, as passports are already required for all air travel between the U.S. and non-U.S. locations.
