Is it cheaper to cruise out of NYC if you live in NYC?

I live in NYC, and was wondering if it was cheaper to catch the boat from NYC or cheaper to catch a flight to Florida and catch the boat from Florida

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
Yes its cheaper in terms of your total cost of your cruise. You have two options for cruise ports to leave from close to NY City. and several cruise lines serving those ports. So you would not have the expense of airfare (or driving) to and from the ports in Florida. But then your options for destinations will be different to a great extent. For example, you can do New England/Canada, Bermuda, Transatlantic, and a few Bahamas and Eastern Caribbean. But you will not likely find any (or many) options for the Western Caribbean, Southern Caribbean, and Panama Canal. There are always more of the latter from Florida ports.

There are good ships serving NY and you will have a great time on them and also enjoy the destinations. I have cruised out of NY ports twice and enjoyed the cruises and destinations. My advice is if you live close to NY ports, cruise out of them and save that airfare and hassle of flying. The NY ports are on these web links:

the cheaper part of the experience is that you can DRIVE to the port and do not have to FLY there. The cruise could be the same as in other areas of the country or there could be discounts for the residents of your state.

cruisecritic.com is a good site

have a great cruise.

Rebecca
First, you don't have to pay for air. You can take a taxi or limo, take the train and a bus, or leave your car parked there for a few days at a cost. Second, if you live in New York, I think you get a resident rate at a cheaper price than people who live out of state.

Also, it depends on the destination you desire. If you want to go to Canada/New England, it is cheaper to go from New York. If you want to go to the Bahamas or Caribbean, take a ship out of Florida. Many ships from New York do not sail that south so it takes a longer time to get there, maybe 8 days, instead of the 3 or 4 night cruise from Florida.

Hope this helps!

Hell yeah. Avoiding the air fare will save you more than half the cost of flying and the cruise put together. The added cost of sailing down the Eastern Seaboard wouldn't offset the air fare.

Stan
The cost will be about the same - the money you save one the cruise will be spent on airfare if you decide to fly to Florida.

The question really is - would you rather spend a day of your life flying to and from Florida or would you rather spend 4 *extra* days on a luxury liner drinking fruity drinks with little umbrellas watching babes in bikinis?

I think you know what I would suggest...

Wings
Get on the ship in NYC...much more relaxing, believe me.
