its not possible at all.
i wanted to for my work experience on a ship but due to maritime laws its just not possible.
you need a crew visa which you can only get if your staff and then theres all the training
ther closest to a ship you will probably get is a cruise terminal which is what i had to do

Unfortunately not at that age, and not for that length of time.
There is too much training that new crew members are required to attend, and if you will only be there for a week, it's not worth it for either party.
Also, due to liability reason you need to be at least 18. (21 for most positions) |

I don't think they do that for such a short time. |

Your best shot is to email the cruise lines through contact us links on their web page. But frankly I dont think that one week is enough for getting a sea deployment on a cruise ship. There is strict education and security trainings that has to be undertaken by any staff on the ship. And I do think that any cl want to know if you is up to theyre level of service standard before letting you aboard a cruise ship. Not to mention any education needed even for simple jobs.
With that said it could be a good idea to show your feet and aply for a shore based work. Johan. |

Cruise ships only hire people over eighteen. If you know someone in the industry you might be able to wrangle an "internship". Do you live in a cruise ship port city like Seattle or San Diego or one of the cruise ship cities in Florida? Living in a major cruise ship port city would also help.
Cruise ship employment has a lot of "glamor" associated with it, kinda like show business. The hours are long, and you live in the bowels of the ship in a cabin no bigger than a walk-in closest with a total stranger you may or may not get along with.
But you get to meet and work with people from all over the world which is a big plus. And, depending on your on-board job you sometimes get to go on the shore excursions with the passengers.
My husband and I did a ten day San Diego to Acopulco cruise last fall. The dining room and kitchen staff was mostly Fillipino and Indoneasian. The retail/customer service people were from South Africa, Canada, Romania, Sweden, UK, and the USA. The crew was a mini-United Nations.
So begin your research now, learn about the jobs you might like to do on board, so you can be prepared to apply when you turn eighteen.
For the time being you're really better off finding something closer to home with a company that is accustomed to working with high schoolers.
Good luck with what ever you do. |
